Only Three Camera Brands may survive the Camera Phone Revolution

NSCAccording to recent reports, Canon, Nikon and Sony are the only three camera companies predicted to survive the Smart Phone revolution. Sales of small point n shoot cameras have declined, and sales of mirrorless cameras have not met expectations. As more and more people opt for using their smartphones, companies like Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Olympus are not doing well. If the predictions are true, we will be left with basically two types of cameras; DSLRs and Smartphones.

Dan Wampler is a digital artist from St Louis, MO. Having been interested in art and photography since childhood, he spent most of adult life working for Kodak and in the portrait photography industry. A student of the works of Ansel Adams, Any Warhol, and David Hamilton, Dan attempted to keep a wide range of artistic style.

As an early adopter of digital imaging, he found it gave him a way to completely incorporate art and photography. Began shooting Digital Infrared in 2004, and had first camera converted in 2006. His work has been seen in numerous gallery shows, is featured in an iTunes app. He produces Infrared and natural color digital art for sale and teaches his post-production techniques online.

Dan is LifePixel's Creative Director,  social media manager, lead blog author, main workshops and training sessions instructor. His images appear in this gallery and throughout the website.

I use Sony ; and as of 2016 … Sony ROCKS.

I looked at the DSLR heavies … and carrying them around would be like hauling rocks. I looked at Nikon and then chose the New A7r series.
For anyone to deny the veracity of the economics of a camera … let me simply point out:
Sony can use nearly ANY lens, I have adapters for Canon , Nikon , and M mounts.
I can even use the Screw Mount ancient Leica. Yes , and all of the Zeiss and Voightlander selections.
    As a tool , I am not hung up on branding…I am a Omnivore ~ A survivor.
Sony can preform 500,000 cycles I believe, my count may be off, and run silently as well. Standard DSLR units cannot do this.
Mirrorless IS the Future. Welcome to the future.

Best pleasure ? a VC 50 mm F1.1 … talk about sharp , and smooth solid steel , and VC manufactures their OWN glass, of course , no hot spot.
I am gunning for Leica next. Experimenting with top German , and Japanese lenses.
Only a Sony. Blast from the Future … and the Past. Cheers ~

Well, technically, Olympus doesn’t even depend on their camera department anyway. My understand is that they essentially view it as R&D for their medical stuff. And on the Sony front, they’re hemorrhaging money quite a bit all over the place. Even if they scrape through with cameras, their solvency as a company in general isn’t super great.
