A Super Color Conversion for a Nikon D7100 with Universal Focus.

Done perfectly! I use a Hoodman Crane in Live View with back button focus. Snaps to focus confirmation as smooth as you please. The crane holds the Hoodman in place so it is easy to use. They didn’t lose all my custom settings either! Worked great out of the shipping box. I struggled figuring out what package to get and this is the one! You get the most latitude and the most options this way. D7100 does live view exactly how it needs to shoot this way. The only downside is I’ll need a spare battery all the time for live view.

Lifepixel did a super job on converting my brand new Sony a7 to full spectrum, which I had drop shipped from Adorama directly to them. No problems. The conversion took less than 8 days and it was sent to me from them. Every time I called I talked to a LIVE person and all my questions were answered no matter how long it took. LP converted a D70s to Deep BW IR 4 years ago and recently a mirrorless GH2 to Supercolor IR for me. The website offers a wealth of info on IR and the differences in IR filter conversion options in easy to understand videos and written materials. Customer service during and after the conversion in both cases is outstanding. They respond quickly to inquiries via telephone or email and spend time answering questions about IR or the conversions. The now included free one on one tutorial with Dan Wampler was great seeing his examples and getting any questions or concerns adressed about how Supercolor works with my camera, pp programs for raw conversion of Lumix raw files. I may continue with other of his tutorials in future. He also sends followup information via email.I have not taken advantage of the free 11x print yet but I will do so. I highly recommend Lifepixel and their IR services.

I took the opportunity to use the 15% discount code I received as a member of LifePixel’s email newsletter. I was sitting on the fence for a while deciding which camera to convert, my X100s or my Fuji X-T10.

Having used a Sony Nex-5 Full Spectrum converted camera from eBay, I knew Full Spectrum was for me. The problem with the Sony however was it lacked an EVF and I count use apertures higher than f5.6 due to a dirty sensor.

So I thought it better to get my current camera converted by the professionals (rather than a pre-converted camera from an eBay cowboy). And i’m glad I did! The email communication has been quick and friendly as well as helpful and my camera was well cared for while being converted!

Now I just have to wait for the weather to clear up and go outside and shoot me some memories (as well as save up for more IR filters!).

I had my D7100 converted and it is exactly what I needed. I shot IR on film in the ’70s and had a ball. I had a point and shoot converted a few years ago and didn’t use it much. I found that the only way I could see what I was getting was to use a Hoodman, and that was not convenient. The DSLR allows normal viewing and is much more fun to use. I sent in my lens with it so that they could recalibrate the focus, it is spot on. Post processing is fun, there are several more steps just to get started, but that is all part of the fun.

Through LifePixel I took the step of a DIY on my camera, which for me was a big risk. The actions and tutorials that these guys put up on their site was enough to get me into the world of Infrared. And it’s paid off as I have been featured in magazines.
