I converted my Nikon D7100 to super color IR (590nm) and choose Universal Focus because the live view does a great job. Try it before the conversion and you will know for sure.
Lifepixel is the best and I know many others that will say it happily. I added a Hoodman Loupe and the “crane” Attachment so the loupe can be attached easily and stays on quite well and come off easy when you have to pack up. Most all my lenses work as expected and auto focus deadly sharp. I use back button focus and highly suggest anyone should if you can.
My Sigma 8-16mm is a bit of a chore and I’ve not figured that one out quite yet. My SIgma 18-35mm is easy. I have about 10 lenses and none have hot spots. All my Lensbaby optics also work well too! Universal Focus just means you can use so many lenses! I have found I often need to add a stop of compensation. You can also manually focus if you want to in live view quite well too. I have a manaul Macro and my Lensbabys I do that with and have for a long time.
It does take a bit of getting used to with the channel swap and white balance. You sort of learn how to process pictures all over. All the tutorials here are MUST SEE! If you are a Nikon Shooter then Nikonians.Org has an IR forum with great photographers that will share everything.
