Fotojet – Free Online Photo Editing Tool

From time to time I hear about  free, online Photo editors, and being the Photoshop snob that I am I usually roll my eyes and think “How cute”  Nothing will replace my dear Photoshop.  With that said and with my mind not really open to the idea, I decided to try out Fotojet.  Someone from their company sent me a really nice email inviting me to try it out, so I clicked thru.

Their page is here

I did have to create an account.  You have the choice of either linking your Facebook account or giving them an email address.  I went with the email address.

fj1

Their opening page is fairly straight forward, Make a Collage, Create a design, Edit a Photo.  I went ahead and checked out all three areas.

Collage

Their collage section is made up of a series of seemingly nice templates that can be used for many different uses.  Everything from photocards to the cover of Time Magazine.

fj3

Would you like to see my face on the cover of Time Magazine?!?  . . . .  umm, . .  yeah, ….uh… no.

The user interface is very simple and easy to use.  It is designed to be used by pretty much anyone.

This sort of thing is not my speed, but the quality of their templates look good.  Once you’ve created a piece they give you the option of sharing it online or saving it.

I could see this appealing to people.  And, … it’s free.

Design

The design section is dedicated mostly to Social Media.  There is an invitation and poster section, but everything else is set for Facebook, Pinterest, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram.

fj4

Once again, it is very easy to use, and the finished product can look professional.  If you are looking to up your game on social media, this section will help you do that.

Now, let’s get down to the reason I clicked thru.

Edit

Once you open the Edit section, you have the ability to open you image just like a regular photo editing program.   Now I openly admit I went into this section with very low expectations.  With that said, I was surprised by what I found.  On the left side of the screen there is a series of buttons separated into Basic and Advanced.

fj7

Each section does exactly what it says and is very easy to use.  At this point I was starting to get impressed.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not suggesting you dump your Photoshop for Fotojet.  It doesn’t do color channel swapping,  layers, or many things Photoshop does, but considering that it is Free, you should be aware of it.

So, let’s see what we can do with it.  The first thing you need to do is upload an image.

fj2

It goes easy enough.  I used a Super Color image that has been channel swapped.

fj5

Each button bar on the left is self explanatory, and works with simple sliders

fj8

I’m not going to bore you with pictures of each category, but quite simply  it works.

In Basic, you can Crop, Resize, Rotate, and alter the exposure or color tone of an image.

In Advance, you can Sharpen, Dehaze, Vignette, and adjust the Noise and Focus.

My final opinion?

I am impressed with Fotojet.com and it would an easy way to make simple adjustments to an image if I did not have access to Photoshop.

You should check it out and see what you think.  www.fotojet.com
