With this conversion service we will replace the internal hot mirror filter with a high quality custom made infrared glass filter. This will allow your camera to capture infrared light instead of visible light. After IR conversion you won’t need any filters in front of the lens and the camera will be just as sensitive to infrared as it was to visible light. This means you can hand hold and compose normally.

Note: The Sony A7C, A7C II, A7CR, A7S II, A7R II, A7R III and A9 use an IR LED as part of their electronic shutter monitor. Once these models are converted to IR, the internal IR LED will contaminate all images shot at exposures greater than 1 second.

Note: The Sony A7 IV, A7R IV, and A7R V use an IR LED as part of the electronic shutter monitor. Once these models are converted to IR, Full Spectrum, or H-alpha, the internal IR LED will possibly contaminate all images shot at exposures greater than 1 second.  However, it only fails on electronic shutter.  For mechanical shutter or for e-first curtain, they do not have a problem! Tested at 6,400ISO for 30 seconds with the Long Exposure NR setting turned on.

Includes:

  • 1 year warranty on the conversion service and installed IR filter.
  • Toll free phone and email support for life.

Product Description

With this conversion service we will replace the internal hot mirror filter with a high quality custom made infrared glass filter. This will allow your camera to capture infrared light instead of visible light. After IR conversion you won’t need any filters in front of the lens and the camera will be just as sensitive to infrared as it was to visible light. This means you can hand hold and compose normally.

Focus calibration we perform on mirrorless cameras allows the use of all mirrorless camera lenses without any focus issues, just as with stock cameras.

Our most popular infrared filter is the Super Color IR due to its versatility in allowing stunning color and monochrome infrared images but it does require some Photoshop post production.

If you are unsure which IR filter type to choose please be sure to go through the Start Here section. It should give you everything you need but if you find you still have questions please feel free to contact us by phone or email, we are always happy to help.

Our 1 year warranty is included on conversion services and installed IR filters.

After you place your order you will receive an email with instructions on how to send us your camera.

White Balance Tips

When setting a custom white balance with a infrared modified Sony camera you may see a white balance error message. The purpose of this message is to inform you that the colors are out of the normal range expected by the camera. Of course they are, as it’s been converted! The camera still sets the white balance even though it doesn’t like the colors it’s seeing, so just ignore the message.

Also, you may notice that when you set a custom white balance the camera gives you a Kelvin temperature number as well. This number is completely inaccurate so don’t try to take a shortcut by just setting the WB to this Kelvin number – the results will be completely different from a real custom white balance setting.

I compared Life Pixel with alternative IR conversion services but chose to send my Sony a6000 to them for conversion based on price, reputation, and referral by photo club members.

Initially I was drawn to the Deep BW IR filter (830nm) but after reviewing information on LifePixel’s website I opted for the Super Color IR filter (590nm).

Although new to learning IR photography the camera functions as expected and I’m trying to make full use of the info gained from the post conversion one on one service.

Lastly, the conversion was completed much quicker than anticipated so I was only without my camera for about 2 weeks total.

    Great job LifePixel!

I have had LifePixel convert two Nikons and a Fuji. They are the best. I just bought a Sony Mirrorless to convert. Can’t wait!

Daniel is amazing. Excellent communication, tech support, customer service. My newest Sony a7R2 590 conversion seems better than the last 3 or 4 that I’ve done. Hot spots seem to be gone. For me there is no other IR conversion company worth even considering.

Had my beloved NEX-7 converted to IR with a standard IR filter in July of 2016. I can honestly say that after 18 months, it’s the most fun photographic venture that I have pursued since the birth of digital cameras many years ago! Pictures are fantastically sharp, camera is easy to use and a surprise is always awaiting those who use these IR cameras! I am currently ordering a super color (590 nm) conversion on my A7R when I discovered I had not reviewed my earlier model. This Lifepixel firm has been top-notch in my opinion, and infrared imaging is a blast!

Top to bottom, my experience converting my Sony A7R to Infrared with Life Pixel has been excellent. Their website is a fantastic resource – both for selecting a conversion and how to get the most out of my new IR camera. Great communication throughout the process. Don’t pass up on the chance for a 30min tutorial after getting your conversion done! I got the handful of questions I had left answered, with time to spare. Thanks Life Pixel – thoroughly enjoying my IR camera.

Sent out my Sony NEX-3 and it came back without any issues! Very attentive customer service, contacted me to confirm shipping address and it came right in time! I haven’t had any issues except for getting used to the focusing. That is expected with conversions to IR though, since the focusing is different. Just have to make sure you eyeball the focus and don’t rely on auto heavily! Image quality is superb! I use the Sony 35mm f/2.8 on it so its the perfect camera for portable creativity!

This is my first camera conversion and am quite satisfied with it as well as LifePixel’s customer service. Shooting infrared has opened photography to another level for me to enjoy. Would I do it again — as I tell my friends — absolutely.

Very pleased with the conversion of my a6000. It has been a joy to use and the whole process was hassle free and professional. Everything works just as it did pre conversion and I greatly appreciate the constant communication throughout everything. No hesitancy about using/recommending LifePixel again!

I had a silver Sony NEX-5 converted to the deep black and white infrared. After previously owning a converted Canon EOS 20D, the converted mirrorless was amazing. I’d switched systems to the Sony E-Mount, and the ability to focus and see what was in focus was fantastic. I have taken a number of photographs with the converted camera, and they always come out crystal clear and sharp. The camera was returned to me quickly, and I have had no problems with it. I will likely have them convert my Sony a6000 when I have the chance.

I converted a NEX7 (normal infrared). Used it with 10-18mm zoom. It is the second conversion (previously NEX6) from Lifepixel. Very happy with their service, and very happy with the results. Too bad my camera was stolen. I will probably will do it all over again when time comes for my next trip. I find the NEX7 the perfect choice for IR conversion. Just don’t use it with the 16-50mm zoom which has a very strong hot center spot.

I had been a film infrared shooter back in the day. The look of the modern lifepixel infrared still has that dreamy soft glowing foliage appeal. Addition to that it has a crisp sharp value which modern photographic viewers like. I still like the dreamy infrared look from film. It feels nostalgic. I am pleased and excited with my life pixel standard infared look!!

I had my first Life Pixel conversion this past year, 2016 for a Sony a6000 mirrorless camera. After getting use to how to operate the camera and process the images, I am well pleased. I did read ahead of time about the blue circle/dot that appears with use of some lenses. The standard lens for the a6000 proved to have that issue. I was able to work through it with some Photoshop work. Since I am also a Canon shooter, I bought a Metabones adapter to fit my “L” series lenses to the a6000 body. Guess what…NO blue circle anymore. Presently, having much fun with my new toy!!

I have had 2 Standard IR conversions done by LifePixel. One on a Canon EOS 40D and the later one on a Sony NEX 7 mirrorless camera. Both conversions were conducted without incident and in each case I have been extremely happy with the results. Ever since having the mirrorless Sony converted, I have found focusing (both auto and manual) with all of my Sony lenses to be accurate. I enjoy the Standard B/W conversion filter as it provides me with the IR results that appeal to me most. However, when I replace my Sony A7RII with a newer version (which is not yet available), I plan to have LifePixel convert it using the super color IR filter as I find results from using that filter intriguing.

I have had 5 IR conversions done by Life Pixels over the years. The last two were on Sony A7 mirrorless cameras. One conversion was for the Standard IR filter and the other with the Supercolor filter. Generally, I prefer the images obtained with the Standard IR filter.

I am generally happy with the conversions. My favourite lens for IR is the Sony 28 mm f:2 with the 21 mm adapter. I occasionally use other lenses, but with some of the lenses I can not achieve infinity focus because the lens can not move backward toward the camera body far enough. I suggest that Life Pixel offer an option for focus calibration where the infinity focus point on their standard calibration lens is slightly behind the sensor. This would allow more lenses to be used with the converted camera, as autofocus or live view manual focus will achieve the correct focus. I asked for this feature when I had the conversion on my second A7 done but Life Pixels did not seem to understand the issue and so I had to accept the standard focus calibration.
