My name is Rodney Harvey and I began with the uncertain results of infrared film back in the darkroom days. I was quite pleased that with the advent of the digital era and that there was a company that converted regular cameras into infrared cameras. It changed everything.
have always been obsessed with photographing abandoned buildings. The infrared spectrum provided a great match of contrasting old, weathered wood against the surreal luminescence of the infrared landscape. Together they gave me the haunting and moody aspect that I was looking for. I also strive to not only document these passing buildings, but to take their portrait, to give them a dignity in their winter years as if they had lived a life of their own.
I branched out even further by scouring the countryside to find the ” best of the best” abandoned locations in America. Through much research, planning, and driving endless miles, I try to capture these disappearing relics. Many buildings in my images are already lost. My ultimate goal is to find a publisher to produce my book as I have already accumulated hundreds of unique images.
