Nevada Wier is a multiple award-winning photographer specializing in documenting the remote corners of the world and the cultures that inhabit them. She is recognized for her creative and intimate approach to people. She has been published in numerous national and international publications, including: National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic Adventure, Geo, Islands, NY Times Magazine, Outside, and Smithsonian. Nevada’s work is represented by Getty and National Geographic Images. She is a Fellow of The Explorer’s Club and a member of the Women’s Geographic Society.
Nevada was the photographer for The Land of Nine Dragons – Vietnam Today (Abbeville Press), photography from contemporary Vietnam, winner of the Lowell Thomas Best Travel Book of 1992 award. She was the author and photographer of Adventure Travel Photography (Amphoto). She was a participating photographer in A Day in the Life of Thailand (Collins), Planet Vegas (Collins) and Mother Earth (Sierra Clubs Books). Her current books in-progress are A Nomadic Vision (publication TBD), and Outer India (publication TBD).
Her fine-art prints are featured in numerous and public and private collections.
Nevada was featured in a National Geographic Explorer television episode on her travels down the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia on assignment with National Geographic magazine and was one of the photographers in Through the Lens for the National Geographic Channels. She was a frequent photographer on Canon Photo Safaris (Outdoor Life Network) and regular guest on The Travel Channel and featured in a Northwest Airlines international television and print ad campaign. She has been a speaker on the nation-wide tour LIVE …from National Geographic and National Geographic Traveler one-day photography seminars. Nevada is a prolific featured speaker for workshops, seminars, professional panels, and conferences. Nevada was featured in two video promos for Adobe Lightroom.
Nevada leads photography tours and workshops for National Geographic, The Santa Fe Workshops, Los Angeles Center of Photography, and other educational institutions.
Nevada started working with digital infrared in 2007, various cameras and conversions. Currently she is using a Canon R mirror with Full Spectrum IR conversion; and two Olympus OM-D EM-1 Mark II cameras, one with Standard IR conversion and another with Color Enhanced IR conversion.
