Training Session Policies
Cancellations/Rescheduling Policy
Because of the one on one nature of our training sessions each time slot is reserved only for the individual that booked it, therefore we must strictly enforce the policy below. This policy applies to both the complimentary and paid sessions.
Client Preparedness: It is the client’s responsibility to read/watch all provided specifications and instructions, such as how to connect to your training session, equipment and internet service speed requirements. We highly recommend acquiring, downloading, installing and testing all necessary software and equipment well in advance of your scheduled session. We are always glad to help with any questions or issues you encounter during this process if contacted well ahead of your session but ultimately, it is your responsibility to be prepared for your session. Late arrivals or missed sessions due to technical difficulty will not receive special treatment and policies below will still be enforced.
Missed Sessions/No shows: If you flat out miss a session without contacting us in advance to reschedule then your session will be considered complete/forfeited. We cannot reschedule or refund missed/no show sessions.
Late Arrivals: Arriving to your scheduled session late will leave you with less total time as we cannot continue your session beyond your session time slot. Else, we ourselves will be late to the next scheduled session with another client and therefore the time you miss by arriving late is lost and cannot be made up or applied toward another session.
Rescheduling: We realize that situations occur that may prevent you from attending your appointment, and we will make an attempt to reschedule you into an open slot, if available. However, you MUST contact Dan Wampler (your instructor) at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled session.
Due to lost time and limited availability we cannot reschedule a session more than once. If you miss or cannot attend your rescheduled session it will be considered complete/forfeited.
Cancellations/refunds: All session booking orders are final and non-refundable. 30 minute complimentary sessions are only available once per qualifying conversion order per customer and cannot be purchased separately.
Video File Add-On Policy
Availability: Training session videos are only available for purchase at the time of your original booking order and cannot be added or purchased later.
Delivery: If you ordered your session with the video file option then we will record your session, process the file and make the finished video file available to you via download link within 5 business days.
Your session video download link will be active for 30 days, giving you plenty of opportunity to download, verify file integrity and make a backup copy for safekeeping.
After 30 days the link and file will be deleted and will no longer be available.
Disclaimer: In case of rare technical failure or malfunction which could result in failure of video recording, your sole remedy is a refund of the video file add-on price of your training session.

Dan was accommodating and informative, I have my first conversion camera so this was just an intro for me. I have lots more to learn 🤪
Bob Estremera (verified owner) –
Dan really gets you off on the right foot with IR photography. Couldn’t be happier with how he first finds out your goals, then gives you the step-by-step processes on how to get there. His 30-minute session saved me hours and hours of trial and error to get started right and get the most out of my new converted camera. Super highly recommended.
Rick Ellinger –
Prepare ahead with your questions! Dan will cover all in detail. Record the session as he is fast and there is a lot of detail to review as he will not waste your time – outstanding instructor. Converted OM-D E-M1 so using OM Workspace from Olympus on the RAW files and then off to more mainstream software tools on Apple Mac Studio. Will sign up for the one hour sessions as I gain more experience. This rejuvinates interest in making, not just taking photographs. Much is due to Dan’s range of experience and his presentation ability on a video link.
Philip Ganderton (verified owner) –
Within minutes I’d learned something new and important. It didn’t stop there and the time went quickly as Dan covered many interesting and relevant topics. Dan is a great communicator, and makes IR seem as natural as normal spectrum photography. Highly recommended!
Don Aittama (verified owner) –
I started out with a standard IR filter conversion a year ago because I thought I would only like to create black and white images. I have recently become interested in the color filters so I had my camera re-converted to a full spectrum conversion so I have the option of switching between different IR filters on the fly. Dan was very helpful in explaining how he color corrects his images before taking them into photoshop to do the channel swap. I now feel like I understand it and have successfully color corrected and completed the channel swap on several of my images. And the Photoshop Actions download that he gave me is absolutely STUNNING!! I love the blue sky with white foliage. I currently have the standard filter, enhanced filter and super color filter. I may want to get the hyper color filter to complete my set.
Pablo G (verified owner) –
I recently converted my “old” Canon G1XII to Supercolor 590nm. I wanted a small IR camera to take with me on an upcoming trip to Ireland to complement my Canon R5. What got my attention right away when I connected with Dan via Zoom was his friendliness and eagerness to answer my questions. You can send some images in advance to him to edit during the session. I was planning on doing this but got really busy and did not do it. I wish I had.
However, he still covered all my questions and he showed me his editing workflow with some of his images. I did pay the extra fee to have the session recorded, so this took the stress out from having to take lots of notes. He did send me the next day the recording via Dropbox and it will be a great reference for once I get back from my trip.
Spencer Wynn (verified owner) –
WOW! My head is exploding! I am new to IR photography so this initial session with Dan helped me so much. I highly recommend paying the small amount to have the session sent as a video file. We covered so much that I can now go back and re-watch the video and slowly let the workflow sink in. Thank, Dan! I will be back for more – I’m sure!
Greg Vaughn (verified owner) –
Dan quickly and easily answered my questions about getting started with my new SuperColor conversion. Lots to learn and I’ll likely be back for more sessions once I’ve had time to work with the info he provided.
Douglas (verified owner) –
The best 30 minutes instruction I have had in a very long time. Dan explained white balance, showed me post processing techniques, and is an enthusiastic teacher to anyone interested in infrared photography. Glad I found LifePixel and Dan Wampler.
GAYLENE CHARTIER (verified owner) –
Dan is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to IR. I got a lot out of my 30-minute session. He made good use of the time, and I came away with a good amount of information to really enjoy my conversion. I have already booked another 60 minutes session to follow up. Thank you again, Dan. I am looking forward to our next session! G
Paris –
Second conversion and second training session in the last 5 years. Well worth it! Discussed more nuanced aspects of full-spectrum photography since I have been doing it for some time. Dan was extremely helpful addressing very specific technical details and we had a great discussion. Well worth the time for the added insights!
John Cook (verified owner) –
Dan’s expert knowledge of IR and photography makes these sessions a very worthwhile deal. Be sure to purchase the video….I refer to mine all the time.
jeff (verified owner) –
Dan, has an easy going approach to helping you learn as much about IR conversions and options for getting the most from your converted camera. A half hour doesn’t seem like a long time but he answered my questions and learned a bit more about what I might do getting an additional camera converted in the future.
Mary desJardins (verified owner) –
Thoroughly enjoyed Dan’s 30 min session. I chose a full spectrum conversion with 590, 720 and visible band pass external filters. I came away from the session with very helpful info. Preparing questions ahead of time critical to making best use of the session, as the time flies by lickety split!
Toby Silverman (verified owner) –
I took advantage of the free 30 minute session. Dan walked me through some specific features for my Fuji camera including how to get and use Capture One to set a custom white balance. He showed me some ways to convert to the black and white I was looking for and how to think about the residual color in a 720 nm conversion. The session was really helpful. I was able to download the RAW converter and set it up. Thank you
Jane Rose (verified owner) –
Having tried out my new converted camera and sent images to Dan, he was an immense help. He explained how to take infrared photos with my converted camera setting the proper WB, using bracketing. Provided tips and techniques. We also discussed editing my images and post processing steps which is a different approach from the rest of my work. I look forward to learning more about this new field of photography.
Dan Burns (verified owner) –
Dan gave me several tips for improving the Milky Way images I took with my Sony a7 III with the h-alpha mod. I couldn’t wait to try them out. The results were fantastic
Chris Shankle (verified owner) –
I took advantage of the 30-minute free training that was part of my camera conversion. I asked a few questions and submitted more photos than necessary to demonstrate my frustrations with finding the right “in-camera” white balance. Within the first few minutes my mind was blown and paradigms shifted on post processing for infrared.
Yeah, there are alot of videos on youtube and other tips for infrared photography but nothing I’ve done has yielded the amount of usable assistance and efficiencies as Dan’s tips and what he showed me. I look forward to doing additional trainings.
George (verified owner) –
I recently had Life Pixel convert my old Nikon D7100 to an IR capable camera, but I was having a difficult time getting usable color images. Dan’s one-on-one session was invaluable. Dan had me e-mail him one of my RAW images which he used to walk me through his Photoshop process for swapping color channels and showed me several Life Pixel Photoshop Actions to simplify channel swapping and B&W conversion. He also sent me the Actions so I could load them onto my computer. Dan recommended that I sign-up for Nikon NX Studio to simplify white balancing Nikon IR images, which was an invaluable suggestion that has proven to be a real improvement over Photoshop’s generic custom white balance tool. My 30 minutes with Dan probably saved me hours or days of trial and error image processing. I highly recommend the session, but would suggest that anyone registering or one of Dan’s one-on-one’s also purchase the recording option. While Dan’s sessions are very conversational, much like chatting with a fellow photographer over coffee, he covers a lot of information so it’s been helpful to be able to go back and follow each step Dan demonstrated at my own pace to make sure I fully understand his processes.
Lou-Anne Curtis (verified owner) –
Recently had my 5d MkIII converted to a Full Spectrum Camera, and ordered several filters so I could shoot regular and Infrared Photography. Since Infrared shooting is different, the first thing I did was to schedule this training session with Dan. He is a wonderful educator, and I highly recommend his training courses. Using a shared folder in Dropbox, Dan walked me through the developing process along with all of the options my filters afforded me while working on my images! There was so much information using this new photography technique, I encourage anyone taking Dan’s training to include the video to reinforce what you have learned. Thank you Dan.
George C. Bailey (verified owner) –
There is nothing like a true professional to steer me in the right direction. Dan W. has set me on the right course to maximize my learning curve. Life Pixel is the right way to embrace IR photography and Dan is the man!
Brian Forschner (verified owner) –
Excellent as always. Dan is a great educator, building on each course I take in a very logical and understandable way. Highly recommend
Judy Flayderman (verified owner) –
TAKE THIS TRAINING SESSION IMMEDIATELY!! I just converted one of my older cameras to give a try to Infrared. I have been admiring the effect for a long time. Trying to figure this out on my own just made my head spin so when I had the opportunity to take Dan’s one on one I jumped on the opportunity. While this is a new process I feel confident that I can go out and have some fun shooting. He also set me up with some basic but critical actions for Photoshop to do the post processing. My confidence level went from zero to I can do this!! Can’t wait to learn more. Thank you Dan!!
James Dinn (verified owner) –
This was my 2nd conversion and training session; definitely worth the time. Dan has a great workflow process for fine tuning your images and is quick but thorough in explaining the steps and variations. I got a lot of additional information for new questions I had. Two recommendations: come prepared with questions (as many as you can think of) and buy the video. Dan packs a lot into thirty minutes and I guarantee that you won’t remember half of it if you don’t have the video to review later. Highly recommend!
Debbie Lefever (verified owner) –
I am completely new to IR. I’m a the point of not knowing what I don’t know. Dan was really helpful in moving me along the path. I HIGHLY recommend getting the recording of your session and he covers soooo much info that you can’t possibly remember it all. I’ve signed up for another training session (also recording) in about one month as I should be ready to learn more at that point. So excited to have help along this adventure.
William Thomson (verified owner) –
Excellent session. I’m a complete newbie with respect to infrared, but Dan steered me in a good direction for accelerating my learning curve. Setting white balance on Olympus can be a tricky process, but Dan outlined a workflow, and I’m looking forward to utilizing the PS actions which he created to simplify PP.
Roger Bradshaw (verified owner) –
I learned a lot from Dan in 30 minutes. Key takeaways were importance of using NX Studio for white balance processing, seeing his workflow, and Photoshop processing. I subsequently signed up for a future 2 hour session. And I ordered the Lifepizel Hypercolor 470nm filter based on his comments and examples using that filter. I am excited about IR photography. Instead of just golden hour, now the whole day opens up for great outdoor photo opportunities.
Barbara Underwood (verified owner) –
I had my converted camera for about a month, before the 30-minute one-on-one session with Dan. In that that time, I captured a few IR images and submitted some of them for Dan’s review during our session. Dan’s tips on IR capture cleared up several misconceptions on my part, but his post-processing pointers were especially valuable. I’m glad that I ordered the recording to refer back to. I’ve also taken advantage of the coupon for more training. I booked a one-hour session with Dan for 2 months from now. Until that time, I’ll capture more images, practice some of the post-processing he demonstrated (including using his Photoshop actions), and submit those images for more discussion during the one-hour session…and yes, I purchased the recording of that session too! Looking forward to continuing to expand my photographic horizons.
John Jones (verified owner) –
I had an excellent session with Dan this week. He is very fine instructor. I’ve been experimenting with infrared photography since February. He provided extremely helpful and clear guidance for taking photos and also for processing images in photoshop. He answered all of the questions I had. I would most highly recommend seeking the help that he can provide with infrared photography.
Denny Wilkins (verified owner) –
I have had two sessions with Dan. He’s funny. He’s informative. He’s motivating. I learned a great deal and all my questions were answered. In fact he pumped more information into me than I realized I needed. Kudos to Dan.
Chuck Brittenham (verified owner) –
IR image processing is more than just swapping the red and blue channels. Dan showed me the right image editor and profiles for my camera’s conversion. He also demonstrated different color variations and layering techniques in Photoshop while highlighting his free PS actions that were included with my 30-minute training session. I am looking forward to creating compelling fine art IR images and know Dan has a lot more to offer if I need to take additional training in the future.
Robert Groh (verified owner) –
Before meeting with Dan I had taken a few dozen photos around town with my Enhanced IR converted D800. I was very pleased with the B&W results. However, after a few minutes with Dan I realized how much more image control was available to me. It was the most useful 30 minutes I could imagine. After taking Dan’s advice and changing a few of my processing techniques my photos are greatly improved. I’m now even more enthusiastic about IR. Thanks Dan!
Mark Sorensen (verified owner) –
I had my Fuji XT-1 converted to supercolor IR. The results are fantastic and I am really enjoying IR photography. The live tutorial session included with the camera conversion was super helpful. Dan explained how to get best results using IR, camera settings, and adjustments in Photoshop to make the images pop. He also showed some of his images and explained how he got them and what adjustments he made. I learned a lot about white balance, exposure and post-processing for IR. Overall an excellent tutorial!
Ross Hughes (verified owner) –
Very knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Learn alot each time we talk. Looking forward to our workshops.
Mike Gould (verified owner) –
Before receiving my full spectrum converted camera, I foolishly tried to learn how to process the images from reading various articles on the internet. What a waste of time! In less than 30 minutes Dan showed me a workflow that actually worked and got me processing my new images the right way. I had a list of questions and it was obvious he had heard them all before because he had all the answers without missing a beat. This guy knows his stuff! I’m still exploring the capabilities of my modified Sony a7iii camera, and I’m hoping to find a workshop to attend with Dan sometime in the next 12 months. Don’t pass up this workshop – you’ll learn a lot is a very short time!
Robert Smith (verified owner) –
I bought a converted Sony A6000 from LifePixel and two days later had my half hour session with Dan. Dan was very helpful with my general questions about getting started. He also told me about Photoshop actions that make editing infrared simple.
Michael Callister (verified owner) –
My session with Dan was just what I needed to start up my infrared photography again with my new conversion. He is helpful, knows what I need to know, but still leaves time for questions. I never felt like he was “dumbing down” his instruction, and yet he showed exactly what I needed. Glad I had it recorded as it was very much worth the extra. I will likely take him up on an additional session in the future, if I need it. And wish he offered more time to take advantage of the discounts for those sessions, as I can’t yet decide what I need until I get out in the field with the camera and return to PS to make things look pretty. Not a big deal though.
Joan Rudder (verified owner) –
This is my 2nd conversion and, as before, Dan was a wealth of information and answered all my questions. Thanks, Dan! 🙂
David Morring (verified owner) –
After having a Nikon Z7ii converted, I scheduled my free 30-minute session with Dan. Dan was very pleasant and helpful in walking me through the basics and answering my questions. He shared some great tips and alleviated some of my concerns about shooting with IR. The Photoshop Actions he shared afterwards are great and a huge time saver and instantly made my photos 10x better. I’ve already booked another session with him to delve deeper into IR photography.
Joey Sheeley (verified owner) –
This is the second session I’ve attended with Dan. The tips/tricks he’s provided have helped me understand IR photography (I’m pretty new to it) and to understand how post works (and how easy it can be). I’ve already got a list of new questions; probably time to set up another session. 🙂
Frank Topp (verified owner) –
I’m very glad I scheduled a consultation with Dan. He was upbeat and sincere in his assistance, and he patiently answered my few inquiries. However, hearing some of the suggestions and strategies he’s picked up over the years, as well as the thinking behind them, was even more important. Dan taught me more in that half hour than I would have learnt in weeks of trial and error. I do urge that you read through all of the fantastic posts and articles on the site first to lay a solid basis for the session so that you can get the most out of it.
DJ Meredith (verified owner) –
Great 1-on-1 with Dan! There’s no substitute for personalized advice from a working pro. During our exchange Dan answered not only all of my questions, but answered questions I would have had at a later time. The hours and hours you’ll spend on your own make the small investment for Dan’s expertise well worth the time and expense. Highly recommend sending him some .RAW files so he can quickly walk you through the process and make it easy to get started. I recommend browsing his personal gallery to see his work, he can help you with a direction to help you develop your style. It’s a great investment, very highly recommend it. Thank you Dan!
Vijay K Kantamneni (verified owner) –
Dan was very easy to talk to and had quick and easy editing shortcuts to make my images come to life
Brian Barnett (verified owner) –
You can’t go wrong with Dan Wampler. Be prepared by sending images and having questions ready if you want the most out of your session. His professional feedback on my images set me straight about many things I thought I knew. He was kind enough to share some of his own tips and tricks to get the great images he creates. The bonus actions and video are icing on the cake. I really appreciated his encouraging comments and his genuine concern for helping me improve. I found his advanced editing expertise challenging. The video will continue to train me and get me to a higher level more quickly since it was my images he was working with. Pick LifePixel for your conversion and get this great package deal of personal instruction and multiple, helpful actions at no additional cost. I feel more than satisfied with LifePixel!
Jim (verified owner) –
I’m so glad I booked a session with Dan. He was enthusiastic, genuinely helpful and talked me through the few questions I had. Even more valuable than that however was getting to hear some of the tips and techniques he’s picked up over the years and the reasoning behind them. In that half hour I learned more from Dan than I would have with weeks of trial and error. I do recommend reading through all the excellent posts and articles on the site first for a good foundation, so that you can truly make the most of the session.
George S Kush (verified owner) –
Dan was able to clarify my issues of how to focus and white balance my IR images from my converted Nikon camera and how to efficiently process them using NX Studio and PS. His explanations were much better than the videos on the Life Pixel web site.
Keith Cochran (verified owner) –
I am new to digital photography where I just started getting into astrophotography one year ago, and infrared photography just a few weeks ago. Dan was warm and welcoming and had me up to speed on infrared camera and post processing settings in no time. He even took my photos and showed how to edit them to create fabulous shots. He was very helpful discussing film a bit too, as he has a background in that as well. Great guy and I’d definitely recommend an online session. My goal is to go on a photo trip as well, and Dan has quite a selection of those.
Cindy Bartosek (verified owner) –
I was delighted to discover that my purchase of a mirrorless camera with a full-spectrum conversion came with a 30 minute 1:1 session with Dan Wampler. Although I shot lots of infrared back in the days of film, the learning curve for moving to digital IR photography felt a bit overwhelming. I found the session to be an invaluable starting point, covering new ideas for creative applications of IR along with important technical information for capturing and processing images. Dan is a very engaging teacher, meeting you where you are, not wasting time covering what you already know or burying you in technical details that are irrelevant at that moment. I’m exciting about getting out and experimenting with my new camera. Once I have some experience and image files, I’ll be back for more training with Dan.
Carolyn Eidson (verified owner) –
The training session was a great kickstart for me. I highly recommend it.
David Silber (verified owner) –
If you’re new to infrared photography (as I was), this was a great way to get started. Dan helped me get over my initial headaches I had setting the white balance correctly to get to a good starting point. And the Photoshop actions were a nice icing on the cake. There are other resources to continue your IR journey, but this is a terrific starting point. You may want to consider getting the video recording to refer to later, and come up with an initial set of questions.
Jeffrey Hayward (verified owner) –
If you are new to Infrared Photography and had a camera converted, the training session from Dan is invaluable. Post processing is critical and Dan will tell you all you need to know to do it right. His concise and efficient style allows for maximum content to be presented in the 30 minute session. Decide what you want to learn about and send in some IR photos. Dan will set you straight. Start your journey into Infrared Photography well-prepared. Tap into Dan’s expertise with a 1-on-1 session.
Terry Thompson (verified owner) –
Dan paid close attention to my needs and gave me a much better understanding about how to convert my raw file. Being a Fuji user I now have a better understanding of what the Capture One Essential Fujifilm converter will do for me. The 30 minutes goes fast so it is a good idea to have your questions ready. After some more practice I can see myself signing up for a one hour consultation to smooth out things that I might be stuck on. Dan’s experience is very helpful in getting new IR students going. I also can see myself adding a couple of other filters to my full spectrum conversion. Super Blue looks very tempting … Thanks for the help Dan.
hlheath5 (verified owner) –
My third conversion, but first Full Spectrum. My questions about which filters would be most valuable were answered throughly. Also questions about any upgrades to the actions were also answered. Last I asked about the best way to digitally mimic aero-chrome and that was answered also. Great session. Hope to get to a workshop someday soon.
Christopher Morgan (verified owner) –
Dan didn’t seem very engaged in teaching. After about 20 minutes he asked if I had any questions, and I didn’t. I wish he had had a cool thing or two he couldn’t wait to show me. The demonstrating went fast and was hard to follow and remember. I learned that he uses Actions in PS and now have the actions loaded and in Photoshop. I am still not quite sure how to use them. I didn’t choose to buy a video because then it is no longer a free session. I did benefit to a three star level
Dan Wampler (verified owner) –
Christopher, I’m sorry you didn’t find your session more useful. When you didn’t show up for your session I did call you to let you know I was online and ready for you. When you did join 10 minutes later, I did my best to keep us on topic, even when you walked away from the computer to answer the door. Since you did not send any images prior to the session or have any questions for me, it was a little challenging on my end. I would have gladly answered any questions, and shared whatever information I had. I did pass on a few insights about IR.
As for the Photoshop Actions I wrote, I did show each of the three actions during the session and there is a video in the follow-up email that shows step by step how to load and run the actions. I wish you the best of luck with your Infrared art and am available by email if you have any additional questions.
Robert Engle (verified owner) –
This is my 3rd full spectrum conversion. This training session was great. I will be returning for more and will probably schedule a workshop later. Thank You.
Beth (verified owner) –
This was a good introduction to the world of IR processing. Dan gave me some good tips, and I’m ready to get out there and try this thing!
Jay Schmitt (verified owner) –
This was my second training session with Dan. He fine-tuned the NX Studio/Photoshop process and gave many tips on how to adjust my IR photos. Dan doesn’t waste time but gets right down to the nitty gritty. Highly recommended: this will save you hours in post.
Rick Holmes (verified owner) –
Dan did a good job of showing how to use a proper color balance to really improve the quality of my interpretation of color IR imaging.
James May (verified owner) –
The free training and the free actions were great bundled in with the camera being converted to Infrared. I was happy to learn the proper way to correct the white balance for the photos. I would love to take another session to learn more techniques.
Alejandro Castillo (verified owner) –
I had my Sony A6000 camera converted to full spectrum, and purchased super color and visible pass filters. I already had other filters that I use for creepy black and white infrared photos. I would not be able to have one half of the fun I am having now if I had not taken advantage of my free class with Dan. He is a photographer that does a lot of IR photo. But, one of the things that he does that I did not know I could do is portraits. His portraits blew my mind. I was afraid he was not going to share all his knowledge, but when I asked how he managed to make such great portraits in IR, he just told me every single little secret. It is amazing how some people are not afraid of sharing what they know, for the sake of art. I will stop here because I can go on forever. This just shows how happy I am to have finally taken the step and convert my camera. I always tried with filters on regular cameras and nothing worked as well as expected. Thank you for the conversion and than you Dan for your generous advice.

I highly recommend Dan Wampler as a teacher. He has over ten years of invaluable infrared experience, and has been a working photographer for decades. I also recommend paying the extra 20$ to get a video of your session together. The video makes for an invaluable tool to reference what he showed you during the lesson, and allows him to move along at a good clip because you don’t have to memorize/internalize everything he says. I go back to the videos often to refer to things he’s taught me. I’ve taken three lessons now – in an hour, he can cover subject matter in greater detail.
Tom L (verified owner) –
I took advantage of the free 30 minute session that came with my conversion of my Fuji XT-2 and glad I did. Dan has an incredible knowledge and experience when it comes to IR photography. To get the most out of a short 30 minute session write down your questions and interests before hand to maximize your training session because the time goes by quickly. I also recomend adding the recording option because Dan goes through things rather quickly and I didn’t have to slow down the flow of good information to take notes knowing that I can rewatch the session as many times as I want when it is convient for me. I am considering taking one of his workshops in the future.
Susannah Sofaer Kramer (verified owner) –
This is my 3rd conversion also, but the first time with super color. I am an experienced Photoshop user but still had plenty to learn from Dan about IR processing with the 590nm conversion. Great session, thank you Dan!
David M. (verified owner) –
Having used converted cameras in the past I was keen to upgrade to the Nikon Z6 from LifePixel. I chose the super color sensor and was impressed with early results. However, applying the learning obtained in this quick session with Dan has ‘transformed’ those images into amazing results. Thank you, I’ll be coming back for more training in the near future.
Huibo Hou (verified owner) –
I had a great 30-min one-on-one session with Dan yesterday. I am new to infrared photography and recently got my camera converted. In this one-on-one training, Dan shared a number of very useful tips about Infrared and answered my questions about WB, focusing, postprocessing, etc. I find the session very informational and useful!
Jason Morrow –
I came into the session thinking I was not going to learn much because I’ve been a photographer for over 10 years but hey it was free so what did I have to lose? Well my ego for one. Dan was extremely informative with his infrared knowledge in photoshop and lightroom but also gave me hints and taught me a few things with my specific camera setup. Dan was engaging and entertaining with his teaching. I would highly recommend Dan and LifePixel for all Infrared Photography

I had a great one on one 30 minute session with Dan. Although I had used and thought I understood how to expose and process infrared Dan quickly showed me new approaches and new ideas for creative applications of IR. He was clear and succinct and quite informative. It was a great session. The addition of the photoshop actions info was amazing. Great job Dan! Thanks so very much
Lori Chrismer (verified owner) –
A great instructor with humor and humility – Dan provides a wealth of information in a jam packed session. Could have listened to him talk about infrared all day! As I progress in this medium I’ll definitely return to get more training with Dan for his insights on how to improve.

I would like to provide a brief review of the One on One 30-minute Online Training provided by Dan Wampler following the 590 nm conversion of my Canon 7D converted by LifePixel. During the training, Dan reviewed setting a white balance profile using Canon’s proprietary Digital Photo Professional and Photoshop channel swap using presets as well as how to shoot portraits with more consistent results. As promised, after the training Dan provided a high-quality video recording of the training session along with presets to speed up postprocessing. I was very pleased with the training and feel I received several hours’ worth of training during a condensed 30-minute session. This training left me inspired and ready to pursue infrared photography with an increased vigor. I am sure I will be back to see Dan for more training in the future. Scott Gillig segillig@yahoo.com

This was my 3rd converted camera. I’ve been shooting IR forever (with film and loading it in total darkness and then processing in the dark room). I learned so much from Dan today! He answered all my questions and more! He’s a great instructor and I’m sure I’ll take more classes in the future.
Stephen Berger (verified owner) –
I totally enjoyed my session with Dan. He is very passionate about the subject and in the time we spent was able to introduce me to several techniques as well as what infrared photography has to offer. He is patient and explains things to you in terms that are easy to understand. I left the session with much enthusiasm and will be taking additional training with him.
Heather (verified owner) –
Dan was super personable and patient. He explained things in a very easy to learn fashion. I, too, would recommend the video option, as it was nice to be able to focus on what he was teaching and not spending time taking notes. I have already referred to the video twice. I am off and running with the steps and actions he provided and I will be signing up for more classes in the future.

Capturing the IR photo is “easy.” But to get the creative look you want to achieve, it’s all in the processing. Dan cleared up some common misconceptions for me, particularly about how wrong other online IR processing courses are about getting the proper white balance, and immediately my photos started looking better. Thanks, Dan!
Charles Stern (verified owner) –
Extremely helpful tutorial. Great camera conversion too. I’m thankful for the advice and guidance as well as for the software suggestions.
Charles Stern (verified owner) –
Great info. I’m so glad I took tutorial. I was having a hard time with getting the colors right and you helped immensely with that. Thanks for software suggestions as well. Extremely helpful.
Jim Corbin (verified owner) –
Dan customized the training very well for me and opened up some new directions in IR photography and post processing that I had not previously considered. I just got a mirrorless full-spectrum conversion, after having three DSLRs converted over the past 12 years, and learned a lot of new things in just a 30-minute session. I had gotten into somewhat of a rut in my IR work, and this training helped to show me a way out of it.
I debated about getting the video instead of just recording it myself, but am glad I did so as to be able to focus on the training and not worry about the video. For anyone relatively new to IR photography, I’d recommend additional training after several months of experience and other online tutorials.
Nathan (verified owner) –
The free 30 minute training was very helpful, but I do recommend additional training if you are new to infrared photography. Dan is patient and answered all of my questions. The opportunity to create a unique photo is exciting and special. I am happy with my camera conversion and the process that it took to send my camera in and to receive it back.
Tom Walker –
Dan did a great job of breaking down infrared photography into a simplified way to understand the best practices of in camera capture, focusing and making the exposure with the peculiarities of working in infrared light. Most useful were his tips on focusing and bracketing for optimal exposure. We then delved into post processing and his tips on raw editors was enlightening. We spent time in Photoshop discussing black and White versus Color and selective color. It was a fast 30 minutes filled with many tips and techniques to streamline your processing. I have studied with may IR Photographers and Dan brings great technical information and teaches it in an easy way to understand.
Gana Browning (verified owner) –
I have had several sessions with Dan over the last 10 months, and each one was packed with information. I always get the video because I will never be able to remember all the things crammed into each lesson. He is responsible for my obsession with infrared photography.
Steven Traudt (verified owner) –
Dan taught me a lot of useful info. I had a general understanding before but he clarified and showed me several new techniques. I am glad to took the optional recording since he does provide a lot of info. I would certainly recommend Life Pixel and Dan as well.
Kenton Green (verified owner) –
I had a great session with Dan yesterday afternoon where we covered an amazing amount of material in just 30 minutes. The session started off with any questions I might have which Dan answered promptly. Then dove into several related topics such as Photoshop tools that could help me not only with IR, but photography in general…for example, the Selective Color tool under Image Adjustments. Dan proceeded to edit a few of my images with some of his Photoshop actions and gave me links to those actions for my future use. It was a great session…be sure to take advantage of it!
norman solomon (verified owner) –
Very helpful session. Dan pointed out some tips/techniques that facilitate IR. `Just wish the session was longer!
Jan Heastont (verified owner) –
Dan answered all my questions and provided lots of helpful information to start me on my IR journey, thanks Dan!
Jim Dalton (verified owner) –
Excellent tutorial. Dan gives the basics and offers solutions for your workflow, as well as tips for when you are out in the field.
Robert Crowe (verified owner) –
Thirty minutes was too little, too fast to grasp the possibilities and how to accomplish them in IR photography. I’ll have to do a lot of study on my own. Dan has strong opinions about what software to use processing IR images. Someone I know (not in this city) who is a top Lightroom/Photoshop expert vigorously disagreed, leaving me uncertain about how to go forward.
Minnie Gallman (verified owner) –
Dan helped me with processing IR photos using selective color and NIK Color Efex Pro 4 for filters. I won two honorable mentions at my local camera club with 2 of my IR photos. The judge, who enjoys IR photography, said they were processed well.
Robert Thomas (verified owner) –
Dan was very helpful and provided some great guidance and tips for using my converted camera. A lot to cover in a short 30 minutes and every minute of it had some info or detail that was useful. I am glad I took the option to get a recording of the session as it will be good to go over it again and be able to pause and rewatch sections. Also think a follow on session with Dan is well worth it and I plan to set that up as well. This bundled training session with an expert like Dan is another reason to go with LifePixel for IR conversions.
Robert Novak (verified owner) –
Dan covered a lot of ground in the just 30 minutes. He gave some alternate ways to address IR, that I’ll have to try out to see if they make sense in my present workflow, or create a new, improved workflow. Several techniques to re-think how I should shoot IR (or any photos).
Suresh Devanathan (verified owner) –
Had a great introductory session with Dan. He patiently explained the process and shared some great tips. Thanks Dan!!
Edward Gundrum (verified owner) –
I learned alot from Dan,I don’t know anything about IR,but Dan answered all of my questions.I enjoyed the one on one session. I know I’ll be back for more Training,Thank You Dan

Dan was great and answered all my questions. Highly recommended.
Irene Bergamini (verified owner) –
I was at a total loss when I received my converted camera. I took a few images and tried to process them by watching a few of the tutorials. It was a complete failure. The 30 minute session was productive and useful. Quickly learned how to set my white balance and move on to a few other tips and tricks. I now want to learn more about IR photography and will take another class.
Bennett Povlow (verified owner) –
Dan presented a number of useful tips in a short time. Changed my perspective on use of color IR photography for black and white conversions and convinced me of the benefits of the 470nm filter. Very worthwhile!
Philip DeLisle (verified owner) –
I have a great 30 minute session with Dan and he immediately helped me with my white balance issues when I use my full spectrum converted Nikon D800 camera( from Lifepixel) as well as working with the three raw IR files I sent him, and showing me how I can improve them dramatically in photoshop. We also discussed various actions he has developed and I can download and use in Photoshop to quickly and effectively chose the final creative look for my IR images. I had a very productive and effective 30 minute session! I would recommend one on one educational sessions with Dan for anyone venturing into the field of Infrared photography!
Martin Mora (verified owner) –
These people are beyond professional , Positive experience through every step of the process, all questions answered and questions I didnt know I had answered. Absolutely confirmed I made the right decision to have my camera converted by this company, The online training was more than informational, I felt as if I had made a new friend with the interaction with Dan Wampler . If your on the fence about whom to convert your camera and additional IR knowledge , Jump on this one with both feet.
Richard Paul Handler (verified owner) –
Learned new tricks and new software options of which I’d had no knowledge. Dan’s a good instructor and his website and downloads are very well assembled. Time was well spent.
William G. (verified owner) –
I was amazed by how much I learnt in just 30 minutes. Dan covered so many topics, from photographing with my newly converted camera, through file handling, white balancing, photoshop, etc. I would definitely recommend working with Dan. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and thorough!
Claire Ramsey (verified owner) –
I had a valuable 30 mins w/Dan. The best part was his simplifying and clarifying the ridiculously varied information on the internet – he got down to basics, very helpful. Honestly, there’s really no big mystery involved, it’s about observing the world, paying attention to learn to see better, then practicing.
Robert B. MacDougall (verified owner) –
This was my first, but certainly not my last session with Dan. I learned a ton of information in this rapid-fire 30 minute session. Dan is the absolute expert in infrared photography, photography equipment, RAW editing and options, development workflows and pitfalls. He is also an expert in some of the most important software including Capture One, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. His enthusiasm for photography in general, and infrared photography in particular is apparent. I would highly recommend any of these sessions and would strongly recommend the full one or two hour classes with Dan. And finally, let me say how happy I am with the conversion of my Fuji X-T2 to IR (590NM). Dan and his team did a great job on the conversion and the price was very reasonable. Thank you, sir!
Doug (verified owner) –
Dan was great to work with. He provided an outstanding overview with good examples of what can be done. The “join.me” app was clunky and the “youtube” guide on how to setup was not clear. Do not let that take away how good the short workshop was. It was a great introduction into the world of IR. Highly recommend Dan.
Steven Martin (verified owner) –
After getting my Panasonic LX-100 converted by life pixel I took the 30 min training course with Dan Wampler. Definitely recommended for getting started, as he brought me up to speed quickly and gave me valuable tips for IR processing. Dan has been around the photography industry for many years so he has lots of experience. He was engaging to talk to and answered my questions. Thanks!
Dennis Fleischman (verified owner) –
I took this 30min class to get me up to speed on using my first converted camera as well post processing of the image files. Instructor Dan was knowledgeable and took the time to make sure my questions were thoroughly answered. Worth it!
PAUL MANGOLD (verified owner) –
I just had my Nikon D200 converted. Life Pixel did a great job. The free 30 minute one on one training with Dan was amazing. I learned so much in a very short time. I highly recommend his training sessions. I’m already looking forward to signing up for more.
Gary Packard (verified owner) –
I’m new to IR photography with a converted Nikon D60 and Super Color filter. Dan gave me a good starting point to develop my IR knowledge and workflow. Some things I thought I needed to do, I found out that I didn’t need to do, making the whole process less complicated. Some software I thought I needed I found out I don’t need. After more shooting and experimentation I will most likely sign up for more.
Otto Guedelhoefer (verified owner) –
Heard about Life Pixel from a friend and have been very pleased with my whole experience. The conversion was well done and on time as promised. The support material, videos and my 30 minute one on one with Dan was great. The video recording is super helpful. Looking foreword to begin playing with the new IR experience. Couldn’t have been better. Thanks Dan
Lynda Appel (verified owner) –
Would definitely recommend! Dan was so helpful. I had done a little IR with filters prior to conversion but turns out I was clueless about correctly setting the WB in post processing for Infrared with my Sony mirrorless. Dan gave great instruction. I have been using PS, Topaz and NIK for several years but I also picked up some great tips from him for these too! The whole process, from ordering the conversion to training was flawless. Even if you consider yourself an expert you can benefit. Looking through the reviews I actually found a couple from very experienced photographers that I know personally and they too found the training beneficial!
Richard Devitt (verified owner) –
I was wondering what I could possibly learn in a mere 30 minutes, but it was well worthwhile. Having always used LR for raw management and processing, it was interesting to learn how to use Canon’s DPP to unlock more information from the raw file, especially for IR. Plus Photoshop features I was not aware of. I look forward to taking full advantage of my conversion once our grey/white winter ends here.
Eric Strand (verified owner) –
I just had a full spectrum conversion and found the initial 30min review to be quite helpful. I can easy learn specific techniques on my own, but I appreciated a basic overview of a practical IR workflow. I may seek additional sessions in the future as I encounter specific hurtles.
Gana Browning (verified owner) –
The deeper I get into infrared photography, the more fascinated I become. Dan Wampler is a great guide and teacher. I will certainly schedule more sessions with him.
Elizabeth G Brooke (verified owner) –
With so many 5 star ratings (mine included) I am not sure what I can add to what has already been said. I appreciated the time and information from Dan especially learning the differences between infrared camera configurations. I just need to get out there and take pictures and I am sure I will have more questions.
Michael Bronfenbrenner (verified owner) –
Dan is the man. Friendly, informative, knowledgeable, excellent communicator. Have been a professional photographer for 40 years, used a lot of color infrared film back in the day, and learned a significant amount from Dan in the 30 minutes. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Robert Abbott –
Time well spent. Picked up some valuable tips in just 30 min. Definitely Recommended.
Mark Evans (verified owner) –
My 30 minute one-on-one session with Dan Wampler was very productive for me as I am new to IR photography. His recommendations on achieving the correct white balance for IR images will help me with my ability to capture better images. I also appreciated his explanation on using my camera’s native raw conversion software to achieve the best results. I am looking forward to using Dan’s LifePixels Actions in PS. I will save me a lot of time in post-processing.
Ron McConathy (verified owner) –
Dan is very knowledgeable about IR photography and he directed me to ways for improvement. The 30 minutes went too quickly, but it was time well spent.
John Nelson (verified owner) –
Had a 30 minute training session with Dan yesterday and what a difference he made! While I still have much to learn about IR Color, he started me down the path to learning the power my camera and Photoshop have in getting the images I wanted. Thanks Dan! I’ll be contacting you soon to take additions classes.
Ron Calvert (verified owner) –
Great training which was tailored to my question for shooting and processing B&W 720 IR images. I have had some experience but Dan provided many new suggested methods for shooting and processing.

From Dave,
I always manage to learn something. My first time with infared. Highly recommend the training. Very informative. Thanks again!
Joe Orban –
Essential training with very useful information, some of which are camera specific. Dan has a good style of training and can answer any question you have. In addition he provides specific raw image conversion information for your camera and Photoshop actions to get post processing started. Highly recommended especially for first time IR photographers like myself.
Niels Kistrup (verified owner) –
Had two sessions with Dan; one this month & one in the spring. In each received an interesting tidbit of IR shooting knowledge that I didn’t have. But in the last one, he did not factor in the different camera mount in a lens recommendation. (Not everyone shoots Canon.)
Stanley Lewis (verified owner) –
I’ve found some online training to be quite valuable, some just ok, and some to be a total waste of time. Dan’s is among the very best, mainly because he addressed my specific questions cogently, coherently, and succinctly and didn’t waste any of my time telling me things I already knew. Highly recommended.
Wendy Harrington (verified owner) –
Your individual questions answered!! Great to have one-on-one time with such a knowledgeable
photographer!!! Thank you Dan!
Sarah Samaan (verified owner) –
Dan was extremely helpful. This is my first IR camera, and he gave me a great head start, with easy to follow instructions for processing my images, and great examples of his workflow and thought processes. This was a great value, and since I also ordered a video of the session, will be something I can refer back to as I get started in IR. Highly recommend!
grnmiata (verified owner) –
Dan is unbelievably patient. I asked him to explain layer masks in words of one syllable, and he did. I can almost do it now without re-reading my notes. Baby steps. Thanks, Dan.
Michael B Brady (verified owner) –
Excellent tutorial – I do HIGHLY encourage purchasing the video of the session. The session ends before you know, and I had questions that I wanted answered and didn’t take the time to review with Dan the techniques he introduced.
Susan Galvin Cook (verified owner) –
The training session was excellent. Dan answered all of my questions and showed me how to utilize the actions and other tips for processing my images. Thanks so much. I am looking forward to exploring the world of infrared photography.

Dan is super generous with his tips and advice. I highly recommend taking a session with him. I learned a lot in 30mins even though I had been working with photography for some years. IR is special.
Joseph Dunn (verified owner) –
Dan was a wealth of knowledge and I enjoyed his incite on the subject and hope to apply the knowledge he sheared. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going out to shoot.
Richard (verified owner) –
I highly recommend taking advantage of this class to cover the basics after getting a camera conversion. I learned a lot and I will probably be signing up for another hour in the future to cover some more advanced aspects of IR photography.
LeAnn Wood (verified owner) –
Being new to infrared photography, it has been like starting from scratch in learning both infrared photography technique, and infrared post processing. I have had two of my own DSLR cameras converted to infrared by LifePixel, and two training sessions with Dan. He is a fantastic guide and teacher, and has given me invaluable tips that have made it possible for me to produce some amazing infrared photos- even as a beginner. He both used my own RAW photo to help instruct me, and guided me through the editing process he used on his own photography. He is professional, accomplished. His body of work and creativity inspires me to keep learning, and experimenting. Thank you LIfePixel…Thank you Dan! LifePixel, Dan and infrared have given me renewed enthusiasm for even my midwestern locale.
Ron Sholand (verified owner) –
Dan cleared up a number of things for me yesterday regarding white balance and post-processing. The Photoshop actions that he provided look to be very helpful and I’ll definitely be using them in the future. Thanks, Dan!
Russ Barss (verified owner) –
Dan – very useful 30 minutes. It got me going on a few key points as well as inspired me to try some new things. Very worthwhile.
Frank Wiley (verified owner) –
My 30-minute one-on-one session was excellent in all aspects. Due to my lack of experience in IR, I had only a few questions, but Dan addressed these thoroughly but succinctly, leaving time for a few very helpful hints on IR and on Photoshop. I learned a lot in a short period of time. I feel that I now I have a strong foundation for IR work. After I do some work on my own, which I know will generate many more questions, I look forward to pursuing additional sessions. Thanks, Dan!
Greg Vaughn (verified owner) –
Dan offered some great trips in our 30 minute session, and did a great job making the most of our time.

I am new to infrared. Had my old camera Canon EOS 50D converted at Lifepixel. Very excited for getting free 30-min training, even without knowing what I should ask at the training. Dan was awesome. He made a few helpful suggestions and later emailed me the links the other information as he promised. I really appreciated it. Overall, I highly recommend this training. Thanks, Dan.

The 30 min session was quite valuable. Although do professional work, I am somewhat new to IR. I walked away with a couple of pearls regarding the workflow from the thirty minute session, and frankly that is quite good. We also shared some thoughts and ideas regarding software and digital processing in general. Always great to engage in such discussions with an experienced colleague. Highly worthwhile and valuable. I recommend it to any person doing IR work, novice or experienced. Dan has a wealth of experience and expertise to share.

I have been making images with infrared film and then using Lifepixel’s digital conversions for many years. Then I purchased a new mirrorless camera and I was facing the 600 page advanced camera manual and feeling quite lost. Dan’s training got me back on track and I am excited about all the new possibilities open to me with the different conversion filters. I used the full spectrum conversion this time so all new color directions are possible once I figure it out. Dan is my new resource and the first tutorial was just the beginning. I am signing up for more immediately. He knows all the secrets to finding your own voice with the camera and I want to know them too…
I highly recommend the trainings !

I recently had one of my old cameras converted to shoot infrared (the Super Color filter option). I decided to take advantage of the included free 30 minute training session that came with it. You may think you already know everything, but I guarantee that there will be at least one little nugget of information in those 30 minutes that will make it worth your time.
Pam Steinke (verified owner) –
I went into the session not really knowing what I wanted or needed. I gave a general request of post processing as the topic. Dan asked a few questions and showed me all kinds of things I was completely unaware of. The half hour went so fast and so much as covered I am so thankful I opted for the recording of the session. I have watched it a couple of times and have gleaned more info from it each time. Can’t recommend highly enough!!
Linda Henderson (verified owner) –
I purchased my converted IR camera from Life Pixel and took advantage of the 30 minute IR training session with Dan Wampler. I learned so much! In preparation for my session, I read online material and YouTube videos on the various methods for IR camera settings, lens issues, and post processing. I prepared for my session with questions for Dan and he quickly and efficiently made many suggestions and corrected bad information that I learned on the internet. The most important issue was the Raw Editor that I needed to use for my Sony A6000 and then one of my lenses had a hot spot. After we went through some of my questions on gear, we got into the post processing, which is a lot to learn, but Dan make some good pointers and I now have the tools that I need to process. I plan to purchase more online tutorials from Dan on IR and Photoshop. Overall, I would highly recommend. Thanks, Dan.

The 30 minute session flew by but I was able to pick up some vital tips for editing properly. Will def. consider longer sessions.
Tommy Gibson (verified owner) –
This training session was very helpful. Dan showed me how I could best maximize my IR mages. Dan has a very easy to understand approach to learning. Thanks for all the info and help.

This is my second conversion camera with LifePixel. I signed up for the free introductory session with Dan Wampler, and also signed up to receive a copy of the session. Dan answered all the questions I had and also went into detail about post production of IR images. Although I’m an experienced photographer he mentioned and illustrated several important details I had not considered previously for post production. I’ve already viewed the entire session recording and found this to be very helpful. Dan followed up with an e-mail right away that had links to photoshop actions and other information as he promised. Thanks, DAN.
Jacek Kowalski (verified owner) –
Valuable assistance in the learning curve that accompanies getting into IR photography. Dan covered the fundamentals of post-processing color IR captures and offered a few insights as to how to use IR for portraits and B&W. He also provided photoshop actions to help speed the workflow. This 30 min session is included with the cost of a camera conversion, which makes it not only timely and helpful but also a bargain!

I am new to IR and bought a converted Sony A6000 from Life Pixel. Dan was very helpful and I got several things to get me started. The Photoshop Actions download is especially useful to me. Thanks, Dan!
Gary Livingston (verified owner) –
I bought a Sony A6000 converted camera from Life Pixel with a Super Color filter but really did not know where to start with it. The 30-minute training session was great in that it gave me some tools to do some basic things with infrared. Thanks, Dan!

I’ve been shooting LifePixel IR converted cameras since 2012. Even though I’m experienced, my session with Dan helped clarify questions I had about importing IR images and correcting the white balance. I used an Adobe DNG Profile recipe & imported into Lightroom for years to correct the WB, but since it doesn’t work on import any longer and is a pain in the neck after, I wanted Dan to tell me how to improve its efficiency. Our 30-minute conversation went in another direction and, in part, clarified problems with DNG profiled images and suggested a better way to import and color correct. I’m convinced. I’m finally giving up on Lightroom as the best way to import my images and will use Canon DPP instead and Photoshop Camera Raw to process IR images in the future. Thanks, Dan, for the in-depth conversation! Very helpful.
MIck Klass (verified owner) –
Dan packed a lot in to 1/2 hour, but answered all of my questions. This is a great way to get started working with your IR images. The PS actions that he includes are a great timesaver. It will be worthwhile doing more after I have had a chance to put some of todays lessons to work.
Craig Gibson (verified owner) –
The sessions with Dan are very informative and helpful. He has great depth of knowledge on shooting infrared, different cameras, and a willingness to suggest very specific settings for my unique circumstances around birds at sunset and and dusk. Easy to work with and an overall delight as an online coach!

I sent Dan photos from my converted camera which he reviewed and made a training session tailored to fit my needs. He made sure I understood the information that he provided and gave me feedback on the direction I should go to resolve my issues. I really appreciated the information he provided. I will enjoy taking infrared photos with my converted camera.

This is my second conversion camera, so I was already familiar with the basics, but I need to learn a little more about how to work with super color. Dan honed right in on my questions and showed me some things that will definitely improve my infrared photography. And the free PS actions were a bonus!
Karen (verified owner) –
Informative and pacy session. Thanks Dan, you’re a gold mine of information. I learned lots!
Jeff Wilson (verified owner) –
enjoyed the informative class with Dan. Had a quick overview and some specific answers to my questions
Milton West (verified owner) –
Dan, I want to thank you for your one on one training. I am very new to IR photo taking and 30 minutes with you provided answers and tools that I have been spending a lot of time trying to dig out of numerous references. The session was very valuable and got me motivated to explore my new IR converted camera. I appreciate the way you answered my questions in a straight forward and easy to understand manner in a way a newbe like me could really understand. I thing the most valuable piece of information was to let me know about the Nikon program Capture NXD. What a powerful program! With this short session you provided enough information and tools that I know now I can start using my converted camera with confidence. I certainly plan to take more one on one training and I advise others to do the same.
Dave Wilson (verified owner) –
After moving to a new camera system, I was having some trouble figuring out a good workflow for the newly converted camera’s raw files. Dan tailored the session to my specific questions and had me up and running within 10 or 15 minutes. This was a huge help – thanks!
William Ryckman (verified owner) –
I enjoyed the session and learned quite a bit about digital infrared photography. I suggest reviewing your photo processing tutorials and emailing Dan your questions ahead of the session; this was beneficial to me and made good use of the limited time of the session. I appreciate receiving the Photoshop “actions” created for those tasks I want to accomplish in image processing. I extend my thanks.

Well worth the time! I had some experience and previous training, but Dan took me in a different direction that I had not previously considered. He is clearly knowledgeable on the subject and is easy to understand. Great session.
stephen sproston (verified owner) –
Great session with Dan. He tailored it exactly to my questions. It was time well spent.
John Abate (verified owner) –
Prior to my session, I watched several youtube videos to learn how to process my IR photos. Talk about confusing, and none of them helped me in the least. Dan was fantastic. Set me up with the right tools for processing prior to PS, then within PS. He’s patient and explains things perfectly. His portfolio is amazing and I look forward to learning more from Dan.
Wendy (verified owner) –
It is great to have 30 minutes to speak directly with Dan who is very willing to share his
knowledge and expertise. Definitely worth doing! I have been into IR photography for a couple of
years and still learned new things from Dan!
Terry Brownell (verified owner) –
Dan’s training cleared up a few misconceptions I had, pointed me in the right direction with respect to software alternatives, and got me thinking differently about my approach to post-processing. The result – after the session I was able to process images the way I had been hoping to. Seriously – it’s worth 30 minutes of your time.
Michael Wohlstadter (verified owner) –
Great session. We quickly established a rapport and Dan was able to walk me through some issues I was having in my workflow. Highly recommended!
Walter Calahan (verified owner) –
If you’re an advanced user who gets offered a free 30-minute training session, don’t skip it. Yes, 30 minutes is short, but Dan’s knowledge is deep, so you will come away with information you can use. For me his advice on which filters to get for a full spectrum conversion was invaluable, and saved me money. His advice on IR portraits using an LED ring light to shrink pupils to avoid “Zombie” eyes was surprising for the fact that I overlooked that infrared won’t see the LED spectrum, so no large circle in the eye.
Elena Kulikova (verified owner) –
Love Dan’s knowledge, insights and suggestions! I learned so much in 30 min, and going to experiment and then book a new session with Dan to learn more!!
Noel Stark (verified owner) –
Great session. Easy to enter. Talked about my Camera and the full spectrum conversion that I had got. We covered Nikon software and looked at his photos and some of mine. It was great would strongly recommend it to all. The only issue in the whole process was my internet camera and my microphone did not work even after a test before so we quickly fixed by switching to phone. Dan is great to work with. Dropbox your photos to him and watch the magic of the images.
Mike Forster (verified owner) –
Great!
It was my first time into colour IR (I had deep IR before .
So much potential, Dan helped me see, and so clear and helpful.
Such a nice guy and a great teacher.
I’m already signing up for more lessons!

Great conversation and teaching from Dan Wampler. Very helpful to know how Dan post-processes infrared images. Found new information very helpful to my images. Thanks!
Mark McKeown (verified owner) –
Dan was very helpful, had lots of great info to share, and was enjoyable to talk with. I’m brand new to IR photography and didn’t even know where to start. Dan got me pointed in the right direction and I’m off on my IR adventure! Dan’s got the knowledge and loves to share it. The more specific things you can tell Dan you need to cover, the more you’ll get out of the session.
Eric Peterson (verified owner) –
Interesting conversation and gave me some things to consider, specifically about my software choices in post processing.
LowellG (verified owner) –
Dan is an outstanding trainer/coach and focuses his vast knowledge of infrared photography to the participant’s needs. This my second camera conversion by Life Pixel and Dan gave me several tips that should take me the next level, especially relating to software processing of the images. Someday I would love to take one of his field workshops.
al campoli (verified owner) –
Had my training session with Dan on Jan 9th. Went off without a hitch. Dan was very helpful in getting me to understand the thinking behind infrared photography. I’m new to infrared so my session with Dan was a great beginning for me. I had a Fuji xt-1 converted to a 590 infrared camera. Looking forward to getting started. Dan is very knowledgeable and he explained a few software options that I should be aware of when processing my infrared photos. Great session! I’m sure I’ll be back for more training with Dan!
Richard (verified owner) –
Dan is very knowledgable and the actions he provided are extremely handy. Thanks!
Andre Detommaso (verified owner) –
I was happy to have this opportunity to talk to Dan about my IR conversion. I had recently gotten my Nikon D7100 converted along with a zoom lens. This is my first IR camera. I had read a lot about IR, but after taking a bunch of shots with my newly converted camera, I had a lot of questions for Dan about operation in IR, and post-processing, so this follow-up session was very timely. Dan was very friendly, very patient, and very thorough. I really felt I got a lot of information this way that I would not have received otherwise. It really enhances the overall value of getting the camera converted. Because I found the session so useful, I am very seriously considering booking one or two hour-long sessions in the next several weeks, after I’ve had a chance to shoot some more and try out more IR post-processing. Bottom line: highly recommend.
Kahsia Hartwell (verified owner) –
Very useful. The PS actions a bonus. I will also be taking a look at Canon’s processing software.
Rob C (verified owner) –
It was nice meeting and speaking with Dan. This was my first conversion camera to full spectrum. I am very much still in the learning and experimenting stage with IR photography. I had several questions for Dan and he answered all that I asked about. Obviously his experience and knowledge is well above my skills but he did a great job explaining things. The 30 minutes went by rapidly and he provided a lot of information. I plan on scheduling some more online training with him to go over other questions that I have. Look forward to speaking with Dan again in the near future.
Zoltan Puskas (verified owner) –
Dan was very helpful getting me started on my digital IR journey. I was hung-up on white balance and Dan quickly corrected me on that issue. He also got me going in the right direction by bypassing LR and processing the RAW images first and then moving them to LR. Time went fast as it usually does when the subject and presenter are interesting.
John B. (verified owner) –
I have Olympus OM-D E-M10 converted with Super Color IR filter. Dan showed how Olympus Viewer 3 software gives an accurate color display of my Olympus IR images on my desktop computer (have already set in-camera white balance). I also look forward to using the Photoshop IR actions sent to me after the session.
Lennie Waugh (verified owner) –
Dan was great, offering me not only some instruction as to how to address and complete IR tasks, but the additional program from Canon I needed and the Actions to be used. This thing I did not know before our session. Looking forward to more IR experiences an possibly a workshop or two. Thanks Dan.
Sonja Schindeler (verified owner) –
This was my second conversion (this time to super color) and I had far more specific questions for this training session. I was hung up on white balance and Dan very quickly showed me how using Capture One Express for Sony could solve the challenges I was facing. I am excited to get out and put this into practice. Thank you.
Terry Palmer (verified owner) –
Dan did a great job with my introductory 30 min session. He answered all of my questions and got me started on the right track to capture and process the images. I chose the video add on so that I can review our conversation. Even though I took notes, we covered so much that I’ll need to play the video to get everything we discussed firmly in my mind. Even if you’re good with your post processing, you’ll want to get some training. Dan has a lot of knowledge and is willing to share. Highly recommended.
Martin D Turner (verified owner) –
This session for me was a re-education of how not only to use my new full-spectrum modification of my Canon M5, but how to get better results being that I have all of the external filters as well; was curious how each spectrum could be best handled. I cannot more highly recommend these one-on-one sessions as they allow one the opportunity to immediately understand topics in question.
Margaret McCarthy –
I appreciated Dan’s explanation of the differences between how I had traditionally worked with infra-red and the new & different possibilities with this conversion. Also a helpful discussion on sharpening and noise reduction. Many thanks!
Gilles Desjardins (verified owner) –
This is the first IR course I have attended. Dan really opened my eyes as to what to do and what NOT to do. Dan is verbose and articulate in his descriptions, and are easy to follow and understand. His instruction are clear and delivered at a comfortable pace. All in all totally pertinent and useful. Thanks Dan.
Dr Francis Greaves (verified owner) –
This was my 3rd Conversion. Now using a Mirrorless Camera which is great, because you can see exactly what your are taking, even with an IR 87 filter in fromt. Amazing!
As before Dan very helpful with advice on White Balance which has been a bit of a problem for me. I am a pure Linux user but even then I found Dan’s examples with post editing in Photoshop very helpful. I will be able to take these ideas to Gimp and Darktable.
Thanks a million, Dan!
JIM.HEYWOOD (verified owner) –
Dan was very patient as I was late. I had more questions at the end but I think I have a path forward. Some instructional videos of the process and theory would be good. Have a new one-on-one scheduled for next week
Suzanne L Roady (verified owner) –
Dan was very helpful and covered a lot of ground in a short period of time. I am very glad that I ordered a copy of the video session because I couldn’t write fast enough! Highly recommend!
Angelo (verified owner) –
This is my first conversion with Life Pixel. Very helpful with making my choice and the one on one training session was very helpful in addressing my concerns with using the camera and post production. Dan Wampler was very easy going and knowledgeable. Would recommend a training session to anybody who wants to improve their IR work.
Richard Distlerath (verified owner) –
Dan did a great job of introducing IR photography using my Canon camera. Ideas were specific and very useful. Review of my sample images introduced some basic post processing techniques. Hope to keep learning.
Richard Brewer (verified owner) –
This was my second session with Dan and he was super helpful answering all my questions about my newly converted Olympus camera. His explanations are concise and he gives great examples of his points and knowledge. I realize there’s a steep learning curve to IR photography but I feel Dan will be available for future concerns I may have. Great job, Dan!
Loren Hedrick (verified owner) –
Great session. Haven’t had a chance to try out the camera, but as soon as I do, I’m sure I may have questions. Didn’t go into all the PP different looks available because I am only interested in the old b&w film look.
richard gold (verified owner) –
These reviews are a great resource for those of us who are intrigued with IR photos. It is difficult to find the kind of help we often need especially in IR so Dan’s sessions are needed. He is thorough, clear, patient and generous as a teacher. The optional video is very helpful as well.
Mikhail Kitaygorodskiy (verified owner) –
Very useful session with Dan. All my questions were answered, Dan fixed very quickly my photos, I sent to him the day before session the way I could see this process on my monitor , so I had both theory and practice learnings for IR.
Thank you, Dan.
Chris (verified owner) –
Learned a lot of useful information not just about post processing but also the cameras/filters themselves.
Norman Reid (verified owner) –
A great introductory session that will get me started in deep B&W infrared photography. Dan is a fun and informative teacher whose deep wealth of knowledge answered questions I did not even know I had and taught me things that were new to me, even though I’ve been photographing for more than 40 years and have written a book on Creative Composition for Landscape Photography! I plan to be back for more sessions with Dan to take my learning even deeper.
Stewart Nelson (verified owner) –
Very helpful 30 min. session yesterday. Dan was easy to talk to, answered all my questions and provided good tips for post-processing. The PS actions were a nice bonus, already used them on 3 new images. Highly recommended.
Frederick W Kelly (verified owner) –
Easy going and knowledgeable, Dan answered my questions, and made suggestions for investigating new areas of infrared use. The included PS actions are a great bonus.
Mark Rogers (verified owner) –
In just 30 minutes with Dan I learned so much and solved one of my long time nagging problems… I will most definitely sign up for more training… Thanks, Dan and you have really cool dogs too 😉
Shaun Mueller –
I am registered for Dan’s class in St. Louis in July, but got this free class when I bought a used camera from LifePixel with an infrared conversion. I am just starting down the infrared photography road, but Dan was super friendly and nice and told me what to bring and what to expect in my upcoming infrared class. Dan seems super knowledgable and a very accomplished photographer!
photog1956 (verified owner) –
Excellent session with Dan, such a tremendous amount of information was given in that 30 minutes! I am SO glad I opted for the video so that I can refer back to it whenever needed. This is my third IR conversion with Lifepixel (and each one has been better than the last) but this tutorial takes it all to the next level. Love the fact that the included actions will save me tremendous amounts of time to achieve the desired effects in post. Thank you, Dan, for this fantastic one-on-one class. Hoping to take a workshop at some point, I would REALLY enjoy the Great Smoky Mountains, especially if my daughter can get away and participate too. (She has the same camera/conversion combination that I do and will be taking her tutorial soon!)
Lisa Gardner (verified owner) –
Dan had lots of worthwhile information to share. I was already familiar with the basics of IR photography, so he was able to give me specific suggestions about the topics that I wanted to learn about.
Michael Cowhig (verified owner) –
My session with Dan ran into a problem when I could hear him but he could not hear me. Within a minute or so he was calling me on the phone. After a few attempts to get my computer issue solved we decided to proceed on the phone rather than waste our time playing computer geek. I had a dozen or so questions prepared for Dan. He was informative and clear with his answers. Some of them were so simple that I should have known but getting started with infrared is intimidating. Having Dan run through my questions made things clear and should help me with the learning curve. Now I need to get out there put it into practice. Thanks Dan and thank you LifePixel.
Jeff Real (verified owner) –
It was a special experience to be able to receive this training from such an accomplished infrared artist. I was a little intimidated beforehand. That feeling went away instantly because Dan is such a nice person to work with. After only a couple of minutes I knew I would love to go on a workshop with him. His knowledge is awesome and ability to impart that knowledge is perfect. It is amazing how much I learned in only thirty minutes. I feel much more confident going forward with infrared thanks to this session. I would highly recommend that you take a look at his inspiring work and read his blog entries before you book your training session. Having done that made my first session feel almost like a follow up session and helped me prepare questions for Dan which he was happy to answer.
I am very glad that I spent this time learning from him and would give my highest recommendation to anyone desiring to learn about all things infrared.
KEVIN (verified owner) –
I’ve been shooting IR for about 3 years using both R72 and LifePixel converted cameras. After spending a the time with Dan, I have a much clearer understanding of the white balance settings, and the actual colours being recorded by the two Filters I use the most (Hyper Color and Super Color). Dan is very knowledgeable and easy going. He is flexible in answering questions that come up during the session and adds quite a bit to the conversation with tips and tricks that you may not be aware of. Also the provided PhotoShop Actions really take a lot of the repetitive post processing that you would normally have to do.
Christian Hager (verified owner) –
Dan provided very helpful tips improving the general workflow from getting the shot into LR/PS through the “must do” step of getting the WB set in camera-specific RAW editor (Nikon Capture NX-D in my case). Great to get some Actions in the package to apply and adapt to own suits. My images immediately looked better after I re-applied the learnings from this session.
c.gladis (verified owner) –
Dan is a great instructor and answered all of my questions, but I realize that I still have much to learn! I picked up some great tips in our 30 minute session and I’m looking forward to continuing to learn more about the joys of shooting in infrared.
greadore (verified owner) –
Dan’s 30 minute training session was very good and informative. Right off the bat I realized I was not doing several things right and it cleared up a lot of questions I had. I was able to greatly improve my workflow and processing immediately and turn out a much better product. I highly recommend this and would suggest you come ready and prepared with a list of questions so you can address them as efficiently as possible.
Mark Haffey (verified owner) –
I enjoyed the session with Dan and learned about both IR photography as well as working with Canon full spectrum images as well. I would have gotten more out of the session if I had known in advance that any photos that I wanted to discuss with Dan needed to RAW files. I hadn’t realized that there was an option to see him work with one of my files. Had I known this I think I would have learned even more from seeing how Dan processed my file. Even without this option, however, it as a very useful process.
Paula Ponath (verified owner) –
The free 30 minute session offered with my camera conversion, I thought yeah what can you learn in 30 minutes. Well I’ll tell you. You can learn how to get going fast and to dispel all the false or useless information you hear elsewhere. Dan shows you what to do and how to do it and gets you on the right track to start with. With it being one on one, you get your questions answered and you can see exactly how to do things as Dan shows you right on screen. The training is structured for what you need help with so you can rapidly get going in your pursuit of making images like you envision. I also highly recommend adding the video of your session so you can go back and see the information again as the session does go fast but you don’t have to waste time trying to take notes or ask for a repeat of what was said. Oh and on top of all that, Dan is really nice and personable and presents in an easy to understand manner. I’ll be signing up for additional training as I progress in my learning. Thanks Dan!
Alan Jackson (verified owner) –
After thinking I knew a few things about how my camera and Life Pixel conversion worked, Dan’s Training Session pointed out items that I never realized could improve my photography. I came away with information about the important aspects of the sensor, metering, and functions of the camera after the conversion. Dan’s information about post production and “how to” tips were something I am looking forward to try.
Eran (verified owner) –
Very efficient and productive session, got answered all of the questions I had and even more. I would also say that the conversion process and all of the interaction was smooth and without any problems. Very professional indeed.
Andrew Wilkinson (verified owner) –
Excellent one-on-one workshop with Dan. He explained everything I need to do to get started with my first IR camera – can’t wait to get out there and start taking photographs. I’d definitely take more workshops to continue learning. Thank you!
Willard Frische (verified owner) –
Excellent session. Answered my questions and presented session in a manner that was easy to understand for an armature with no IR experience and little experience with Photoshop. Will eventually take another session.
12gaugewire (verified owner) –
At first I thought, “30 minutes is never going to be enough”. Within 10 minutes, most of my questions were clearly answered. Dan (despite the flu) was/is a very personable, very effective teacher. We covered basic camera settings, raw processing, IR color swapping, a little bit about workflow and approaches to getting the image I want. When I have more time into the IR world I’m sure more questions will arise and I won’t hesitate to book another session. Thanks for a great experience! You guys might consider a shorter 15 minute intro session, it would be helpful to prospective converters- going over options and the dead minimum basics
Kar Wright (verified owner) –
Dan Wampler…what a testament to IR Imaging! This guy is so talent…technically he’s off the charts and his ‘work’…well that speaks for itself. His images move you, give you goosies and inspire you to embrace the IR creative journey with Dan as your mentor. Thanks Dan! Looking forward to future training classes!

I just recently got back into infrared photography and had Life Pixel convert my Sony A 6000. My one on one with Dan was great. He quickly showed me the importance of raw files and how to use them as well as some great short cuts and editing techniques. He is very knowledgeable and talented, He has inspired me to dig deeper in my learning of Photoshop. I highly recommend getting a recording of your session. He is a wealth of information and you’ll want to go over it again after the session. Think up questions, he’ll give you answers and examples. I am looking forward to doing this again.
Joey Sheeley (verified owner) –
Dan is AWESOME! He’s fun, funny, and was super easy to follow. I’m not a pro, but have a lot of amateur experience; Dan quickly figured out what I was comfortable/not comfortable with and adapted easily. 🙂 Looking forward to messing around with my newly converted camera!!

Great session with Dan Wampler for the IR camera conversion. I picked up some really good tips about RAW files that I didn’t know. Make sure to take notes because every word is valuable.
Eric Dyck (verified owner) –
This was a great session. Dan is fine instructor, and had ready answers to my questions. I plan to book another session at some point, and hope to attend a workshop sometime. The follow up email with his actions was an extra bonus.

30 minutes is not enough, though for that 30 minutes I learned a lot and surely got my money’s worth.
Ken Roberts (verified owner) –
Good training session with Dan. He asked the right questions, then answered questions I had regarding infrared processing. I do not use Photoshop, but do own a copy of PS Elements, which the actions do work with. Thanks for the help, Dan. You started me off in the right direction.

I had a fabulous session with Dan. He’s very knowledgeable and easy to understand. Working with him was like talking over Infrared with an old friend. I especially liked the one-on-one interaction. I’ll definitely be looking into more training with Dan.

I’ve been making IR photos for awhile, mostly monotone. I recently had an Olympus EM1 converted with the Super Color option. I was interested in learning some tips and tricks for using the 590nm filter.
Dan Wampler was very helpful. He shared two take-aways that have completely changed my approach to IR photography:
1. The importance of accurate RAW conversion for color/IR image files.
Dan pointed out that Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) in Lightroom does an okay job of RAW conversion, but the best results can be obtained using the camera company’s proprietary conversion software. For my Olympus camera I compared ACR conversions with conversions on the same image using Olympus Viewer 3. For images made with the 590nm filter, the results were striking; the Olympus software gave a much more robust result with richer tonal variations. The extra step slightly complicates my development workflow, but the results make it worthwhile.
2. The importance of accurate white balance for IR images.
I had always used the Adobe DNG Profile Editor for making a custom white balance preset for my IR cameras. It worked fine for monotone images. But for super color shots, the static custom white balance isn’t adequate. For the best results with super color, you really need to measure the light color at the time of exposure, either from some element in the exposure or with a grey card. So now my IR kit includes a small grey card that I shoot before shooting an IR scene. In the RAW conversion software I neutralize the grey card image and use the resulting white balance measurement to neutralize the IR scene image. Again, the results are striking — rich tonal and color variations that give lots of options for image manipulations in Photoshop. Capturing the light color with the grey card complicates the image-making process, but it’s worth the effort.
If you get an IR conversion with Life Pixel, take advantage of the offer to spend 30 minutes in conversation with Dan, the IR Guru. I bet you’ll learn something you didn’t know. I did.
Gerry Davis (verified owner) –
I purchased a used camera and 720nm IR conversion from LifePixel, and enjoyed a 30-minute tutorial with Dan Wampler about 1-month after my camera arrived. The tutorial was informative, useful, enjoyable, and gave me some new approaches to explore. Dan quickly appreciated my areas of need and offered constructive suggestions about these issues. I look forward to continuing to explore IR photography and the new world beyond the visible light specttrum!
Richard Miller (verified owner) –
Great experience. I learned first off, that I misunderstood what the conversion would do. My experience with full spectrum photography needs to be updated substantially. Most important lesson in this first class was research RAW data as a science. I did not understand what I was looking at in Photoshop RAW and Sony’s proprietary ARW format. Having a capable RAW editor is most important. The second thing I learned is conversion of a RAW file into a file that can be edited in Photoshop and what that means is also critical. Good job.
Luiz Braga (verified owner) –
The session was very important to introduce me in the IR possibilities. Dan was patient with my fair english and I thank him very much.

Dan was an excellent instructor, generous with both his time and sharing his knowledge of all things IR. He takes time to ask questions and listen to your top questions to make the session perfectly suited to your needs. Dan provided a lot of tips and information in the session to help me make the most of my new found love of IR. In a short amount of time, there was a lot of information on shooting, work flow, and tools to help support making the best images one can. Dan’s enthusiasm for his work certainly comes through from his first hello! I signed up for more training sessions as I know they will be so beneficial to the goals I have for myself. Thanks for everything Dan!

I’m completely new to IR photography (in camera or post-processing. Dan provided just the right info to get me started and made sure my questions were answered. This 30-minute lesson was a perk I wasn’t aware of before sending my camera in for conversion. It added another positive dimension to an already positive experience with LifePixel.

My half hour session with Dan was amazing. He helped me understand some of the settings and how they affect IR photography – especially the f/stop and white balance. He gave me lots of tips during our conversation that will save me time while shooting and during processing. I am ready to experiment! I might even convert another camera in the future.

Could not be happier with my LIfe Pixel camera conversion, my time with IR instructor Dan Wampler was the icing on the cake! Super knowledgeable and a wonderful instructor, Dan got right down to business taking me through his recommended workflow and answering every question i came armed with. I was stunned with the results of my first outing with the camera and use of Dan’s post processing workflow, IR photography has opened a new world of creativity for me. Thanks Dan!

I recently purchased a New Fuji X-E3 camera body to have converted to the standard IR filter as I wanted to focus more on B&W IR.
I already had Daniel, at LifePixel, convert my Fuji X-Pro1 to enhanced color IR, but wanted to do less post production to get great B&W IR.
I scheduled a 30 minute training session with Dan, and sent him some questions and images for discussion. He was more than happy to take his time to make sure I understood the question and answers. Dan was excellent to talk with and gave easy to understand feedback and suggestions, and helped me with any issues I was having with learning IR.
I live for photography, and was a NYC commercial photographer and the corporate industrial photographer for one of the largest aerospace companies in the world. But Inferred photography is such a different learning experience that its important to have someone with experience explain it.
If you are planning on entering the world of IR, I highly recommend LifePixel for the conversion and taking a training course with Dan. you will not regret it

I want a small camera converted to IR to take on trips. Daniel at Life Pixel suggested a Sony camera and I had it converted to super color. I am very comfortable with Nikon cameras but had never handled a Sony. I signed up for Dan Wampler’s 30 minute training session. Dan asked what questions I had and very patiently he took me through the various steps I would need to take. He offered additional tips for taking the pictures and for processing them. He was very knowledgeable and understanding and above all patient. He shared some of his Africa photos with me –which was helpful because I am heading there shortly. It’s a whole other way of seeing!

I have a number of Infra-Red cameras and enjoy the process and the results. Dan’s training session was very helpful for answering the many questions for which there just isn’t anyone whom you can ask. He has the broad knowledge of a pro shooter and is willing to answer questions on just about anything photographic. This session was very helpful towards ironing out the things about which I was uncertain. Good job, and thank you.

I have been taking IR Images for over 20 years. I switched to digital IR in 2009, but have never got the WB sorted out, I always seemed to get a bit of a Red cast in my Pre WB.
I changed the filter to Super Color this month, and took advantage of this tutorial with Dan. By using the LifePixel site and chatting to Dan I have now got this sorted. Nice blue foliage now.
I am a pure Linux User, so do not have Photoshop, I use Darktable Software (similar to Lightroom) for my RAW File processing and Gimp as well. It is challenging trying to find ways to simulate Dan’s excellent Photoshop Actions without Photoshop, but it does keep my little gray cells working.
I found the tutorial very useful, learning some very handy tips from Dan. Also really useful to chat to someone who understands Digital IR so well.
Thank you Dan!

I have been taking IR Images for over 20 years now. Switched to Digital IR in 2009, then changed the filter to Super Color this month. I was having major problems with the White Balance, always getting a red cast, but by using the LifePixel site, and taking advantage of Dan’s excellent tutorial I have got it sorted.
I am somewhat at a disadvantage being a pure Linux User, so do not have Photoshop, but I am finding that darktable is a great tool for managing my RAW files, and then finding ways to simulate the great Photoshop actions Dan provides is entertaining to say the least. Gimp & darktable suite me. Not so easy, but keeps the little gray cells working.
Keep up the good work, and nice to be able to chat to someone who understands Digital IR so well.

Dan was awesome. I tend to learn best by playing around on my own, but the tips and advice given was tremendously useful. Thanks!
John Andrus (verified owner) –
My training session with Dan was great! We covered my questions on 720nm and post processing, we went over the Hyper Color and the many possibilities you have when shooting with that filter He gave me tips of post processing the Hyper Color. We covered some on full spectrum and tips on filters. I found the session very helpful and informative. I would recommend that any one just starting out with a camera conversion to take a short class to help you get started shooting and processing right away. Thanks for the help Dan.

My Nikon D3100 was converted a second time from Deep IR B&W (832nm) to Full Spectrum – for mostly astrophotography use. I had questions for Dan Wampler regarding if there was any special concerns for astrophotography use, and why some of my Milky Way RAW images had a reddish cast even with the full spectrum conversion. Dan suggested two things: white balance during the daytime (to eliminate reddish cast), and also use the Nikon software Capture NX-D (for higher quality processing). He claimed that the Nikon software handles their proprietary RAW format better than other software which attempts to reverse engineer the RAW format correctly and completely. He also suggested to convert to 16-bit TIFF – I will try that before any further processing with other software I have like DXO PhotoLab, PixInsight.

I had no idea what to expect and was very pleased with the way the training went. Although I did B+W infra-red some 10 years
ago, there was plenty to learn now that color is available.
Thank you for a pleasant 30 minutes.
Alfred Hodgson –
Thanks Dan: I was pleased to learn that I received a free training session with the conversion of my Sony A7R. You quickly focused on and helped me address some problems I was encountering and provided valuable information on image processing. Thanks also for the PS actions.
Charlie and Cheryl Ess (verified owner) –
Thanks, Dan, for a most informative session on IR photography and processes in post. Your expertise really shines through, and the Ps actions to speed up the channel swapping and other functions saved so much time! Thanks for the great visual support and your conversational style.
Mark Rosenhaft (verified owner) –
A must for anyone involved with infrared photography. Dan has the answers and some great tips, plus great Photoshop actions. Highly recommended.
Jim Buivid (verified owner) –
Had a informative training session. Have the Hypercolor conversion and learned proper approach to achieving successful images. Dan is very knowledgable and had answers to all my questions. What I would have found even more helpful would have been detailed approaches to working with different light situations. I learned a lot and look forward to using the free Photoshop actions he provided.
Charles Church (verified owner) –
Dan is an excellent teacher. I really enjoyed the session and acquired some new skills. Dan is not only a wealth of information, he’s very personably too. Thanks for the great session!
JACK (verified owner) –
Dan, thank you for this start-up 30-min session. It was very helpful and answered my most important initial questions about IR photography. Job well done!!!!
David (verified owner) –
Thank you Dan. Excellent session. Specific to my needs. Helped me get started on my new adventure with my Enhanced converted Nikon D300.
Joe (verified owner) –
I just recently had my first camera converted, and this training session was included with the cost of the conversion. I’m still just figuring out how to shoot infrared and process the images, and this session did a lot to point me in the right direction, and keep me from making some mistakes that would limit my results. It’s well worth the time to have the session, even if you’re not sure what questions you have. I’m a lot more comfortable now with how to approach shooting and learning infrared.
Corrie (verified owner) –
I’ve been shooting infrared since the film days, and this is my third conversion – fantastic as usual. I learned some new things with this call, which I will be putting into practice. And yes, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
Rod Martinez (verified owner) –
The hypercolor conversion is my second IR conversion. I thought I knew a lot. Talking to and watching Dan via the tutorial was a great learning experience. He answered all my questions and showed me other tips and techniques to not only work with Hypercolor, but to enhance my IR photos. This was a terrific bonus to my Hypercolor conversion. Thanks Dan and LifePixel.
Ljoyce12 (verified owner) –
This is my third IR camera and my first working with Hyper Color. I am enjoying the learning process very much. Dan’s training sessions really give you an opportunity to practice your new skills. I had questions regarding white balance that were cleared up in less than five minutes! Thank you, Dan and LifePixel, for giving us such great educational opportunities!
Lana Froemming (verified owner) –
Completely new to Infrared photography, Dan answered all of my questions & then some (pay attention or get the recording). Our meeting left me totally psyched for IR & a workshop (if it’s the African Safari I’ll run just a little faster than the slowest person in the group), as well as eager to continually advance my skills in post-processing. Custom WB and post-processing was immediately clarified & improved. Take the 30 minute training!
Martin D Turner (verified owner) –
Time well spent! I learned more in a half hour from Dan on IR processing than I’d picked up in weeks. Once I put that into pracrice I will most likely book more time to see how I have come along!
Ed G (verified owner) –
Well, I must say , I thought I knew a lot about the infrared conversions (this is my 3rd via lifepixel with one being a redo from another company )but after my purchase of my Hyper color ,I am blown away by the possibilities! Its to much! 🙂 It was super nice of Dan to include me in his 30 min on line video chat. I learned a great deal!
Ian Abbott (verified owner) –
Dan was friendly, easy to talk with, and he was *very* knowledgeable about my particular Nikon camera, lens and software. He answered all of my questions, and he provided very effective “real-time” coaching about processing my images. Thanks, Dan!
Rebecca Cleary (verified owner) –
I had my 30-minute one-on-one turorial with Dan Wampler to learn more about my new HyperrColor conversion. Dan was quite helpful in giving insights into setting white balance and some basic photo editing of my images. There is still lots to learn, but his encouragement and especially his suggestions to always make it fun and to take time for trying things out between trainings makes lots of sense. I look forward to further exploration into what my HyperColor conversion will allow me to create.
TOM LOVELL (verified owner) –
This was my first time meeting Dan and he is one of those guys you immediately feel like you have known for years. We had a great time and covered all the questions I had and then some. I would highly recommend Dan to anyone interested in infrared photography and will be scheduling more sessions with him in the immediate future.
Margie and Bill Murr (verified owner) –
Dan got us on to the right track in post processing. Once we have had an opportunity to put what we learned into practice for a few months, we will be back for additional sessions. Thanks Dan.
Matt (verified owner) –
After meeting someone on a photoshoot in Atlanta whom had used Life Pixel to convert her camera I decided to give it a try. I had my Olympus EM10 fully converted to the new hypercolor. As soon as I got the camera back, in about a weeks time, I went straight for the free 30-minute tutorial session to get me started. Dan was very informative and knowledgable. He taught he how to correct for the W/B in the images during post. He also showed me some other editing techniques to help with overall image processing. Dan was super friendly. He showed me how he achieved certain looks in his images, and shared his experiences of photography. I would highly recommend having a conversion done, and taking the chance to meet Dan.
Dan Cogan (verified owner) –
After struggling for a week trying to bring out my IR images taken with a Super Color filter, Dan showed me how to process them within the first 10 minutes of our session. He has a clear and uncomplicated way of teaching and explaining.
Joseph Puccio (verified owner) –
I had a great training session with Dan Wampler. He made sure I understood what we were discussing and answered all my questions.
I had a problem with Elements and Infrared so he sent me some Actions that would help with infrared editing. They work great.Dan gave such a great class I’m thinking of taking a workshop.
I’m happy that I chose LifePixel for my conversion. They did a great job and it was done faster than I expected.
Michael Groh (verified owner) –
Dan was very helpful in showing me how to get the most out of my shots. He showed me how to get the most out of my Supercolor conversion. My previous IR camera was essentially limited to monochrome but now with some very helpful instruction I will be able to add full color images to my IR photography. The training session was helpful. We covered lots of information in a very short time. I really appreciate the copy of the recorded session so that I can review again.
Dan Rowland (verified owner) –
This was my 3rd camera to be converted by Lifepixel, but the first to be converted without the standard IR filter, I got the hypercolor conversion. Dan answered all my questions about how this filter differed from the others and helped me with some Photoshop actions to make color conversions easier.
Marian Wyse (verified owner) –
Excellent, informative training session. Dan has a deep knowledge of IR photography, and an intense enthusiasm for all things IR. Thanks so much, Dan!
Tom Diaz (verified owner) –
I got good technical information. Dan’s knowledge of cameras and color is good.
fabiola forns (verified owner) –
The session with Dan made my processing so much easier, plus now the pictures look well done, which they didn’t before. Very appreciative of his time. Thank you Dan!
Helen Bradshaw (verified owner) –
The training was great! Dan explained everything clearly and thoroughly. He answered all my questions. I’ve taken a number of one on one sessions with Dan in the past and I will continue to do so! Thanks, Dan!
Chris Maher (verified owner) –
This was my second 30 minute training session with Dan after getting my third camera conversion, this time with the Hyper Color. Dan was great in explaining some of the mysteries I had about this conversion and I have a much better understanding of his workflow and the reasons for it than I did after my first training session with him several years ago after my first conversion.
David S. Pinkham (verified owner) –
This was my first tutorial session with Dan. While fairly experienced with IR photography I had two very specific questions. He not only answered those thoroughly and in a way that was easy to follow and understand, he also helped me to look at other possible creative options. Our session was excellent, productive and I may now be looking at joining one of his future workshops. Thanks Dan!
Joyce Harman (verified owner) –
The training was great! I am an experienced IR photographer and still learned a ton. All my questions were answered, in a very complete and understandable way. I recommend these sessions to everyone from basic to advanced. Totally worthwhile. Thanks.
Dan Holowicki (verified owner) –
I recently had a Nikon D7000 converted by LifePixel. The half hour training session with Dan was a great starter. With a few tricks for proper white balance and some basic Photoshop actions, several test pictures went from rather flat appearing to eye popping. I still have a ways to go, but this has brought a whole new dimension to my photography skills. Can’t wait to learn and experiment more. Dan is a great resource and well worth spending time with.
Tom Keran (verified owner) –
I recently had a camera conversion by Life Pixel which went exactly like clock work and the same can be said for Dan Wampler’s technical training. He was waiting for me and my rural internet patiently. The explanations he provided to my questions took my own skills to a new level in IR photography. He was able to provide a new process for software that I already had…My images improved that night, and when you see his images you will understand…A great gift. Best Regards
Jay (verified owner) –
I was hoping to get a good insight into the work flow in IR photography. Ant the end of the session, I had a very good working knowledge of white balance, workflow, post production, sensor tech and had a photoshop macros too! whoohoo!
Dan is extremely knowledgeable and as was evident during the tutorial, very engaging and simplifies even the most complicated concepts for easy understanding. I would highly recommend his tutorials and I am now very eager to explore his workshops.
Donald Dunbar (verified owner) –
I recently had my Olympus OMD-EM5 II converted by LifePixel to a full spectrum IR camera. I’m new to IR photography and took advantage of the included 30 minute session with Dan to learn some basics. It was great. Dan had so much to say that it turned into 1 hour! I am definitely considering another session and maybe one of the 3 day destination courses.
Susan Starr (verified owner) –
This is a great way to get started with infrared! Dan is very knowledgeable on all aspects of shooting infrared. I was especially interested in post-processing — Dan explained clearly how to do the initial conversion from your camera using Nikon NX-D and why that is important (none of the information captured by the sensor is lost or compromised). He also took time to answer several questions. An excellent session! I highly recommend getting a copy of the video.
Barbara Knippenburg (verified owner) –
My conversation with Dan was enlightening. He is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and an excellent teacher. His examples of things that applied to my questions were excellent. He answered my questions clearly and to the point. He spoke at my knowledge level about my concerns. He made some suggestions about purchasing Photoshop that were valuable. He pointed out a number of ways to get around the problems I have discovered with my camera and software. I enjoyed my training session today and learned a great deal. Thanks, Dan.
Jim B –
Excellent! Dan is a master of his material and knows how to teach infrared processing. Learned a ton! I suggest you get the video, because there will be a lot of information provided and reviewing later will be helpful. Thanks, Dan!
Rob Fornell (verified owner) –
I had my Sony A6000 Full Spectrum Modified and the 30 minutes I spent with Dan Wampler covered a wide variety of things but most importantly my questions were answered in detail and with that information I understood the importance of custom white balance and also filter selection. The first filter I purchased was a Super Color Filter and the images are stunning and allowed me expand direction. Thanks Dan and all those in service who took the time to answer all of my questions thoroughly. Honestly in my opinion this the best money to have spent with this type of return in photography. Customer for Life.
Bruce Rutherford (verified owner) –
I am new to Infrared Photography and my initial experiences with newly converted camera left me with a lot of questions that needed answering. Dan cleared up all of my photographing and processing questions quickly and clearly. He gave me some additional tips that are going to make my life a whole lot simpler. His images and experience have motivated me to expect great things for my future infrared photography.
James McCabe (verified owner) –
What a pleasure it was to speak with Dan. I got answers to my questions, as well as some advice on questions I’m likely to have next. My work will benefit enormously. Dan is clearly a seasoned professional, and an expert in infrared. Honestly, I’m a little surprised at the caliber of help I just got. LifePixel is not messing around! Thank you!!
Werner Talasch (verified owner) –
Very useful hints on b&w conversation techniques. Matched exactly my expectation. Thanks Dan.
Stan Fong (verified owner) –
An excellent fact-filled 30 minutes of instruction. Tips included channel-mixing techniques, and other Photoshop tricks for Infra-red. Very organized and uniquely informative!!
Edward J Kaskewicz (verified owner) –
I had a wonderful session with Dan. He showed great knowledge and compassion in IR. He inspired me to change a few ways that I post process my IR photos. I look forward to working with him this year to greatly improve my skill.
Karen Borusiewicz (verified owner) –
My first IR conversion was for a Nikon D80 to the 590 IR. I am a self taught photographer and post-processor, so I did not come armed with a lot of questions but rather a request for a simple approach to get started the right way with IR photography. I had no idea of the benefit of starting my processing with Nikon Capture NX-D versus just starting out Photoshop for a raw conversion. The quick run through on that and clarification that the free software was what I needed was worth the price of the session alone, however I did not even have to pay as this first one on one was a part of my conversion package! Dan was very helpful and I am glad I spent the money to have a video copy of our session. I find that taking notes means some info is retained, but some is lost while trying to capture a point in writing. No worries with the video which, by the way, was sent to me only hours after our session. Dan also gave me a quick run through of how to bring my photos from the camera to the Nikon software and then into my LR. I am sure I will appreciate this session even more once I try putting it into use. A positive experience that makes me want more, including a workshop!
Jack Drafahl (verified owner) –
This is my third conversion, and the first to full spectrum. I session was very helpful, and answered the questions that I had about the new system. As a professional photographer and photography instructor for 44 years, I felt the session was very informative, and included information about the conversion and the editing of the images that I had not considered.
Steve –
Really useful information for shooting and post-processing. Highly recommend.
Pamela Hall (verified owner) –
Dan is a very personable, knowledgeable instructor! I felt very comfortable after my session and was able to successfully shoot a few images today. They aren’t perfect but they are a great start to a new technique for me!
Dane Johnson (verified owner) –
Dan provided a detailed discussion specific to the points of interest which I indicated in the booking form, and supplemented the information very well. I would easily recommend Dan to someone with questions who need one-on-one assistance.
Scott Davenport (verified owner) –
Dan answered all my questions and then some. Quick, targeted, right to the important points of IR photography. Take advantage of this 30min session – you’ll be happy you did.
Donna (verified owner) –
This is my first experience with IR photography and I was struggling to get the results I wanted. Dan quickly identified what the issues were and gave me the information I needed. I had spent hours searching the web for the answers Dan gave me in 30 minutes. So worthwhile!
PFR (verified owner) –
Dan did a good job with outlining the basics. I have an IR film background, so translating the technique to a digital platform was valuable. Would absolutely recommend this class. And if you don’t know, be sure to discuss RAW converters and white balancing for your camera type – critical to getting desired results.
Chris Starbuck (verified owner) –
Having gone through all the text and video tutorial material on the LifePixel site, plus several IR photography books, I had a fair grasp of many of the technical basics coming into the live training session. I had also spent some time photographing with my converted camera, learning what things look like in full spectrum and with the Super Color IR filter, and had some specific questions as a result. I very much appreciated Dan’s adapting the session to my specific questions, and walking through step-by-step answers (which he had, for all my questions), rather than having a “canned” script. Just what I wanted, and very helpful.
Charlie Anne Breese (verified owner) –
Dan is an excellent instructor and very easy to understand. I had previously taken classes with Dan and had some questions. Answered all my questions about new IR conversion camera, provided new PS actions and explained how to use them. I submitted some of my images. I strongly recommend getting the video as so much material is covered it would be impossible (for me) to remember it all. I plan on taking additional one hour training.
Fred Morales (verified owner) –
Booking and setting up the training session was easy. Dan answered all my questions and gave me a firm foundation for starting work on my infrared images. We went over white balance, color adjustments, and the use of the free Photoshop actions he provided. The session is well worth your time.
Les (verified owner) –
Dan’s session was very helpful. He cleared up some issues that I’ve struggled with for some years, as well as imparting some very surprising info on Adobe, Lightroom, and PS. All told, time very well spent, very worthwhile. Thank you.
Michael Florian (verified owner) –
My first IR conversion after using IR filters on lens for a few years. Camera is working great, but I do need to learn more about workflow. Dan was a big help in covering the essential steps to get going in the right direction.
Gail (verified owner) –
Second conversion ( sounds like a spiritual event – and sort of is!) and second 30 minute session with Dan ( and a few hour ones after the first conversion.) Sessions have all been focussed, individualized and extremely helpful. Opportunity to submit photos and questions in advance makes use of time very efficient, and his guidance targeted. Excellent resource, and much appreciated.
Jeremy (verified owner) –
Conversion process was great, but the information Dan provided during our session was worth much more. He explained many of the fundamental details many people miss during their initial experimentation with IR. The tutorial was very helpful, if you get a conversion, I would suggest taking advantage of it, and many more lessons!
Eric Anderson (verified owner) –
Dan showed me a few things I had not tried yet and gave me insight on how to shoot a proper image. Thanks for setting up the path for me to follow.
David A (verified owner) –
Pros: Dan is a very accomplished IR photographer and was able to use his own gallery to illustrate the points that he was making about IR portraiture and landscapes. I now understand why IR skin look different from visible light-lit skin.
Cons: Rather than a tutorial, Dan simply asked if I had any questions, which he was happy to answer and answered well — but I was expecting a more structured approach in the short allotted time. Our conversation was more of a ramble than a tutorial. Did I learn from it? Sure. What would I have preferred? 15 minutes of ‘here’s my approach that I have honed over the last many years and why it works for me,’ followed by ‘do you have any questions.’ But in the end, our ramble was useful.
Catherine d’Alessio (verified owner) –
Although I had been shooting with a Supercolor IR camera for a couple of years I had a new camera converted of a different brand. At first I thought it wouldn’t be necessary to have a secession but decided that it might make setting up the white balance in LR easier with Dan walking me through it double check my steps. I was totally blown away when he came up with a whole different suggestion for my processing of my RAW IR files (which also applies to my non-IR files) that has turned out to result in a much better result than what I was doing. Wow. All in 30 min! I think I’ll come back in several months for an update.
Gary Liljegren (verified owner) –
I had a great time. Dan came on right at the appointed time and was friendly and fun. My questions were answered and he pointed me in some new directions and some equipment options I didn’t know existed. I am driving from Florida to South Carolina on Sunday to be in the middle of the eclipse path on Monday. Dan gave me a number of suggestions to try, particularly in the 2:32 of totality. I was very pleased with my 30 minutes of concentrated education! Thanks, Dan.
Ed Barham (verified owner) –
I found the time spent with Dan very well worthwhile. I am grateful for the introduction, and can see an immediate improvement to my photographs in IR. I will definitely take advantage of the workshops as I continue to learn more and practice in the new world of IR.
Sabine Konhaeuser (verified owner) –
I recently had my Fujifilm X-E1 converted to Super Color. While waiting for my camera I tried to educate myself a bit via online tutorials and videos. Having the one on one session after I had a weekend to work with my “new” camera was really helpful. I had a few questions that have all been answered, some things have been corrected. I’m glad I took the 30 minutes. It also made me go back to Fujifilm’s RAW converter. I still don’t like it all that much, but the clarity of the developed photo is amazing. Last but not least the PS Actions. Those are really neat. I would recommend it.
Darlene Harris (verified owner) –
Dan was very helpful and right on time. We had a great 30 minute session. He helped me to understand white balance both in camera and in post. He was also familiar with my equipment and it’s different processing needs. Off to a great start and will definitely book further sessions to dive deeper.
Alicia Hoegh (verified owner) –
It was so nice to have a one on one training session with Dan. He is extremely knowledgeable and provided me a lot of information in a short period of time. I plan to take additional sessions with him and hope to do a workshop as well. Thank you Dan!
David Shoemaker (verified owner) –
This is my first camera conversion (full spectrum). I was getting great images with the visible light spectrum filter and the deep b&w IR filter, but the color in photos with the Super Color filter were…off. I suspected it was a White Balance issue, so I followed the steps in the online videos to set a custom white balance. It definitely improved the images, but the sky was still skewing purple instead of blue.
I booked the (FREE with my camera conversion!) 30 minute training session to learn how to fix this issue. Dan was incredibly helpful! Not only did he show me how to correct my issues, he emailed me links to download free tools and software and gave me tips on improving my photographs by enhancing the subject in the photo editing process. I was so impressed, I booked two more sessions and I am eager to see how they improve my photographs. Thanks again, Dan!
Linda (verified owner) –
I am a complete novice to IR and understand the value of learning from Dan rather than the possible misinformation on the internet. He is patient and so knowledgeable and has put me on the right track to learning this new process. Also I had a little trouble (my own) in registering and he handled it for me without my even asking. He is a real asset to Life Pixel.
Belarbino Remedios (verified owner) –
It was a pleasant session. Dan mentioned Detail Extractor and Actions both of which were new to me. He showed how to improve the 2 images that I had previously sent. Well worth the time. Dan is a good and knowledgeable instructor. I now have to practise, practise!!
Rob (verified owner) –
Dan is a wealth of information. I had viewed all of the tutorial videos and read everything I could find before hand and figured I had the basics covered. Dan still managed to give me new pointers and information I hadn’t found anywhere.
Megg McNamee (verified owner) –
Great start! Dan is very helpful and explains the basics well. Now all I need to do is get out and shoot!! Can Hardly wait.
Jimmy Walters (verified owner) –
Absolutely amazing. Dan can explain in thirty minutes things that would take hours to learn from other sources. Dan is very pleasant and very forth-coming with his knowledge of IR photography. My session was very informative, with respect to white balance, IR exposure settings and Photoshop actions. Thanks Dan, and thanks LifePxel for an excellent conversion.
Rod Nakanishi (verified owner) –
Dan is amazing in what he can get across in 30 minutes! In hindsight, my advise, make your appointment within the 30-days of your conversion. But schedule it out another month or two. Do as much shooting as you possibly can. Find an image that really grabs you. Send it to Dan, and go through his actions and his thought process on it with you. I plan on attending one of his workshops as soon as they schedule on on the WEST COAST! Santa Cruz, CA would be nice.
renee akana (verified owner) –
Dan Wampler is amazing! I learned so much in our session. I am not a beginner and that’s not where we started, but Dan opened my eyes up wide to the possibilities of what I can do in infrared. He’s a true artist and he has so much interesting knowledge. Thank you so much! I really enjoyed our session. Next step is to take a workshop.
Timothy Schroeder (verified owner) –
My session was enlightening in several ways, especially for white balancing and other IR techniques for my converted Fuji X-E1. I enjoyed talking with Dan, he’s open and friendly, and would recommend the session to anyone interested in IR photography.
Barbara Ventura (verified owner) –
Dan is available, willing and giving in his informational training session. I bombarded him with questions and he was quick to respond. He was precise and knowledgeable as a photographer and obviously on Infrared converted cameras!
Charles (verified owner) –
Dan is an excellent presenter with in-depth knowledge of infrared photography. He gave me excellent suggestions after reviewing samples of my work. In fact, there is so much information given that I need a little time to absorb it before booking another training. Would I do it again — definitely; and I’m looking forward to reviewing the video to fill in my memory lapses.
Marvin (verified owner) –
If you are just getting started or already bitten by the IR bug, Dan Wampler is a great resource. IR is a lot about post production and he has lots of ideas and tools to help you do good work and surprise yourself.
Michael (verified owner) –
My first infrared experience. Had my 5D Mark III converted a few mos ago. LifePixel was great and Dan Wampler really did a great job of getting me started. Dan is very knowledgeable, and was able to get me on the right path very quickly. Dan really went out of his way to be sure all my questions were answered, and Then some. I shoot Raw and I now feel quite comfortable with the white balance and coversion issues. Thanks Dan!
I really got alot out of the session.
Bipin R Amin (verified owner) –
Dan Wampler, provided valuable information for a beginner to IR photography like me. First thing for a beginner is to get the custom white balance right, Dan helps with that. Post processing is really a challenge, this course is a nice start but I am sure I will need to go to a workshop to get a better feel. You have do some homework to ask the right questions to learn. It would be nice if Dan could give a 10 minute introduction to the basics one must absolutely know about IR photography. I plan to attend one of his workshops as the 30 minutes one on one online was a good appetizer… I need the main course soon! Thanks Dan.
Robert Carpenter (verified owner) –
I had just received my converted camera and done a few days of experimentation. The session was very helpful. Dan offered good advice to alter the way I was using the camera (setting white balance) and doing the post-processing. There are lots of conflicting and incomplete descriptions on the web about how to handle the process. This training session helped point me in a better direction. Dan is very clear in describing the proper way to manage white balance and the Photoshop actions should be very helpful. If you are a novice with IR this training is a definite benefit.
Crystal Nederman (verified owner) –
I’ve had a converted camera before but it’s getting old so I converted another one with a different filter. I use a Canon G10 because it’s small and easy to carry around. The downside of that is that I don’t have interchangeable lens. I had the 590nm filter put in it. I really enjoyed the training session with Dan. He was thorough and answered most of my questions (I had quite a list!). The instructions for accessing the session were good and easy to do. I must say though, a half hour was not enough time. If you book a session, you might consider doing back to back sessions to get an hour’s worth of training. Dan did a great job covering what we could in a half hour but I wanted more so I booked a spot in his St. Louis workshop. Really looking forward to i!
Keith Tomes (verified owner) –
I was called away and unable to participate in my training session. I apologize for any inconvenience. I’m very excited about IR and have gotten great results shooting with an IR filter. Now that I have a LifePixel converted camera, I have high expectations for shooting much more in IR. My only minor disappointment is that since getting my converted camera,… there has been nothing GREEN to shoot in the Chicago area in March. Thank you for making your training sessions available. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Keep it up!
Charles Cummins (verified owner) –
I took my one on one training this morning. Easy to enter the training session, and instructor was prompt and was anxious to help me get going on Infrared. He ask a couple questions about my camera and which conversion I had installed. From there it was all about helping me enjoy the camera, edit my photos, set white balance and more. Instructor showed his photos before and after editing as he detailed the process. Very happy I got involved. Easy to follow and understand. Bonus with an email of actions and software links. Strongly recommended.

I have had my Canon 7d sitting here waiting for IR conversion since the 7dmII came out, finally got it converted! There were just too many choices and until I came across LifePixel I just could not decide. LifePixel had a great walk me thru it menu and I figured out that I prefer 590 supercolor. I received my camera back and was pleasantly surprised to learn that I got a free training and some PS actions to make the best use of the newly converted camera. wow! The live tutorial was helpful, especially when we went over some of Dan’s photos and he talked about how he obtained some of the images in his gallery. I am very versed in cameras and in post-processing, but still learned about 4 scenarios for WB consideration for IR capture. Well worth it!

This is my 3rd conversion camera, and I still learned something. Worthwhile info and tailored to exactly what I needed. Thanks!
